a major in the united states air force has refused to go to afghanistan because he claims that president obama is not his commander in chief. i submit to you that the major is a coward, and i would rather not have to depend upon him in battle anyway.
i realize, especially from the postings of these comics, that we are a people of diverse opinions. however, when the manure hits the fan, i don’t care what political persuasion you’re of - just as long as you get my back. i know i’ve got yours. hooah!

Jon Stewart did a beautiful takedown on Lou Dobbs, who apparently missed the debunking done on the “Birther” nonsense by … wait for it … his stand-in on his own show.

A curious and as yet unsettled question of what it means to be a natural born citizen. What I didn’t know (and this is only Google, so take with a grain of salt if you like), is:
“Despite widespread popular belief, U.S. military installations abroad and U.S. diplomatic or consular facilities are not part of the United States within the meaning of the 14th Amendment. A child born on the premises of such a facility is not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States and does not acquire U.S. citizenship by reason of birth.”
Source cited for above quote: ^ “7 FAM 1116.1-4(c) “Acquisition and Retention of U.S. Citizenship and Nationality”

I’d like to just laugh off these ‘birther’ kooks, but that’s hard to when you read the horrendous bill that’s currently being considered in the house. The bill requires a presidential candidate to present a copy of his or her birth certificate, together with “such other documentation as may be necessary to establish that the candidate meets the qualifications for eligibility to the Office of President under the Constitution”.
Bill Posey, the freshman Republican congressman from Florida should be ashamed (or, at least embarrassed) for pandering to this conspiracy theory by introducing this trash. Although he, and other House Republicans claim that this bill has nothing to do with President Obama, or the birther movement, that’s a lie. This was expressly designed to humor this lunatic movement and, by doing so, give tacit legitimacy to its claim. I understand that some of these same people are very upset that illegal aliens are taking jobs away from Americans, but I don’t think one of the jobs is the Presidency.
You even had some soldier refusing to serve in Afghanistan because he claimed his orders from the President were invalid because the president, uh… wasn’t legally the president. That soldier belongs under the stockade, as far as I’m concerned. Even a prominent Republican like Alan Keyes promotes this conspiracy theory. I know he’s a former diplomat, but what was he- the ambassador to La La Land?
It’s all kind of funny until you start to think about the sentiments that drive these wing nuts. And if you watched the group that took over the town hall meeting with Delaware’s Republican Congressman Mike Castle, it’s downright scary-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNjLpWDWC…;
The deranged woman at the town hall meeting screams, ‘I want my country back’, but it’s the Republicans who need to take their party back from these moronic birthers. The GOP needs to put these folks back on their meds quickly, or risk forever being connected to them.
motivemagus said, 4 months ago
And Cheney’s daughter refused to distance herself from them. This is the future of the GOP? The tin-hat conspiracy nuts?
By their standards, McCain is even less qualified. He was born in the Canal Zone before it was considered US territory. (Congress passed a law saying it was okay for him to run for President.)
I strongly recommend checking out Jon Stewart on this:

The people in politics and the media who are pushing this concept are hoping to incite some lone gunman wacko into attempting something drastic. If there is ever an attempt on the President’s life, I bet the culprit will be someone who completely buys into this nonsense.

I don’t consider myself a “birther”. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a moot point. Any vetting should have been done before the election. Period. Besides, even if it came out that Obama was born in Russia, Obamabots would still love him. Maybe even more.
That being said, there must be some reason for spending $$ millions (not by Obama, but by “somebody”) to suppress information.
My gut tells me that although Obama is probably an eligible U.S. Citizen, somewhere along the way he probably checked a box on some educational application somewhere that said he wasn’t to get some kind of financial aid or special consideration. That would be…… embarrassing. It won’t come out till after his term is over.
I guess that makes me “mixed” nut.

If Obama was born in HI please produce a birth certificate.
If he was born in Africa state the facts.
dtroutma said, 4 months ago
Expletive deleted! The simple fact is Cheney’s quick switch from having a homestead exemption in Texas, to rushing back to Wyoming, in order to run with Bush, came a lot closer to violating Constitutional guidelines for office eligibility.
Bennett’s cartoon DOES sum up way too many folks in America today, many with access to the airwaves and print media.

DrCanuck stated,
Yup, this man’s god ordered genocide. And killing, left, right, and centre, of anyone who might be different from the old men. The killing of gays, women, children, minorities, animals, governments, social outcasts, and everyone else. Kill, kill, kill. Hate, hate, hate. Blood, blood, blood.
And then his followers claim their god is pro-life and a god of love.
Not for me, thanks.
It just occurred to me that canuck and most liberals do not separated right from wrong or Justice and punishment.
For instance a hunter that pays for his hunting license, rifle, ammo, taxes, deer tags etc. Goes hunting and harvest a deer that he feeds his family is no difference than a man that kills and rapes 20 kids then burry’s them in his basement. If the man that killed the 20 kids gets the death penalty that is horrible but just as equal to the deer that was harvest.
If a man does not want his children taught by the public schools the homosexual agenda and he fights the school boards. Then votes conservatively on the elections. He then states homosexuals should not get treated any better than anyone else through hate crime bills.
The liberals think he wants to kill homosexuals.
If a man does not want the most innocent of human life killed through abortion and partial birth abortion. He attends church, volunteers at the local Crisis Pregnancy Center and gives contributions to his church and pro-life center. He then says Charles Manson should of gotten the death penalty due to he is pure evil.
The liberals think he is saying Kill, kill, kill. Hate, hate, hate. Blood, blood, blood.
But on the other end euthanasia, abortion, partial birth abortion, homosexuality, lesbian, transgender, child molester and bestiality is fine for the liberals.
Is this the way it is?

ANandy is right. It should be simple. Obama’s birth certificate has been shown by officials in Hawaii. And the birth announcement has been found in August 1961 issues of two Honolulu newspapers. However, just as some people still believe the earth is flat, some people prefer to have their have their beliefs unencumbered by facts.

Sources Rush sites for his facts have all Stated Obama is indeed a USA Citizen.

Jeez, Louise- Obama HAS presented a Hawaiian birth certificate. A certificate of live birth IS a birth certificate. As far as I can tell, and I’ve looked, every birth certificate from Hawaii is called exactly that.
I’m sorry that you birthers are so upset that we now have an African American as our president, but if I was you, I’d try REALLY HARD to suppress any urges to express that angst through further questions about his birthright to the office.
InspectorWingnut said, 4 months ago
Obama’s living Paternal Grandmother has stated he was born in Kenya.
Women who are at the same stage of pregnancy as his mother was at the time weren’t allowed to fly in ‘61. Which means she had to wait until after the birth to make it to Hawaii.
A certificate of live birth is not a Birth Certificate. A certificate of live Birth is applied for after the fact.
A birth announcement in a paper means nothing, especially if a woman was trying to protect the legal status of her offspring.
Let’s see ALL of his papers, admission forms, term papers, passports, etc.
What are you Libs scared of? The truth?

And speaking for my people, as it were, we “Libs” aren’t afraid of the truth, LoveDoctor. But we do enjoy watching you people flail about like lunatics.

I love that picture of me in this ‘Toon. As you can see, he’s very serious and intent.
tpenna, you are following me around as much as Anthony…
You can make me look even more like a flaming Nut. This should be easy. Tell me WHY you think Obama has been born in America? I’m sure you’ve heard the doubts some of us have against his American birth. You have: 1. An internet photo of an irrelevant document.
2.The word of two Hawaiian Officials that he has a “certificate of Live Birth” (Duh.)
The Mixed Nuts have: 1. The total stonewalling of the issue by the Obama Team. 2. The word of his paternal Grandmother. 3. A Lockdown on ALL documents from his past. Including his college enrollment papers.
Now, which of those issues makes me a “nut”, Tpenna? Which ones are unreasonable to ask?
And I personally hate having to bring up the issue. I pointed out on a post more than six months ago that this issue will be irrelevant for this presidential term (I believe this was before he won the election) because if he won and it was determined He didn’t have a birth certificate, He would be President for Four years anyway as what it means to be a natural born American is hashed out. (It’s never been settled.) I also am against throwing every spurious issue at Obama like all the Right-Wing extremists have been doing. If Obama would fail, I would rather have Obama fail explicitly for his wrong views than for the opposition trying to cut his legs out from under him.

Dude, I wish you would stop changing screen names. I keep thinking you’re somebody new to the forum. And then I wonder, “Hmm. Where’d NoFearPup go? Haven’t seen him/her in a while.”
I’m not following you around. I just sometimes peruse through old toons to see what discussions are being had.
As for the “Birther” conspiracy theory, there are certain people who are deeply committed to “outing” the President as a closet Kenyan or something. These people spend stupid amounts of time piecing together bits of information that suit their theories (or they just listen to morons like Glenn Beck), and then try to combat the rest of us normal folks who don’t bother wasting their time dealing with it.
The matter has been settled. The President was born in Hawaii. This is a fact.
InspectorWingnut said, 3 months ago
What criteria do you use to decide he was born in the U.S.A.?
Hearsay? Good feelings?
I am also the aforementioned NoFearPup. I rather like my LoveDoctor avatar (from a Sherffius “Toon)… My detractors do not like my alter ego, saying it is deceptive. But, I made mine just for experimentation and never went out of my way to deceive anyone. I suggest you not get too hung up on who’s who, because I happen to think there is many multiple-posters on this site.

No, Pup. There are some things I investigate fully. This one, I’ve looked into just enough (reading about the journalists who personally saw his birth certificate, looking at the copy on the internet, looking at the birth announcement in the newspaper, etc.) to feel contented that the truth has come out. This is a non-issue.
I’m perfectly happy to watch the nutters froth at the mouth over it. But you guys are embarrassing yourselves and America (a la Crazy Eileen at Rep. Castle’s town hall meeting).
InspectorWingnut said, 3 months ago
“Journalists” who personally saw the “Certificate of Live Birth”. Hawaiian officials who can personally verify seeing the “Certiicate of Live Birth”(This is in response to Laura Ingraham.
Again, I do not know about you but I have my original personal Birth Certificate from when I was born and a Copy of the Original Full Length B.C. filled out at the hospital and kept with my birth-town’s official records. Obama has neither of these: no footprints, no parent finger prints, no doctor’s signatures. Just an applied for after-the-fact “Certificate of live Birth”.
It would seem that the more people who have looked into this affair, the more likely it is that the “Birth Certificate” actually exists. Yet , if you listen to their official statements , they discuss irrelevant factors or concentrate on un-important points. Robert Gibbs “We have gone into this ad nauseum…” When was that? The court case itself didn’t even delve into facts because an “interested party wasn’t found”. How about the people of the U.S.? The most official officials that have been a part of this issue have looked for reasons to IGNORE the issue.
Also, Obama still refuses to give access to the “original” Birth Certificate in Hawaii. There’s an original in Hawaii that no one has seen? Then what is the “original” that has been scanned and pored over by factcheck.org? The factcheck.org geniuses can’t even get their “facts” straight.
And factors such as the “forgery” concern were debunked early on. No one cares about “raised seals” , etc. - the Certificate of Live Birth” is an alternate document .

You’re a freak of nature, man! The Republican governor of Hawaii (who stumped for Obama’s opponent) has gone on the record to state that the certificate Obama made available and has posted on the internet is legitimate.
As for the grandmother, that little lie has been decisively shot down before (as in waaaaaaaaay back in December). See Alex Koppelman’s essay debunking it here: http://tinyurl.com/mxq6m9.
Now, I have no illusion that this will satisfy you because I know that you are a loony conspiracy theorist who has become untethered to reality. But here goes, anyway.

InspectorWingnut said, 3 months ago
The Republican Governor who stumped for John McCain happens to be from my hometown, and her part in the controversy was to call the Registrar of Documents and to ask whether or not they had Obama’s “Birth Certificate”. Bear in mind that there was no legal reason for anybody to verify let alone minutely examine any documents. In fact, if any but the most general statements would have been made, I would imagine that the Obama Team would then have grounds to sue. This issue is walled up in political correctness, bureaucrat-ese, and possibly, cynical manipulation in high places by folks who are “in the loop”.
Please understand, I covered all this before, and if I had my choice between an Obama second term or Republican; I’d rather not vote. I am hardly out to get Obama: I like the man, I don’t necessarily trust his policies. But inaction on the truth and what may be a cover up of fraudulent documentation is not the answer to good government.
Waving one document around which has virtually no information on it is hardly proof of citizenship for a man with Obama’s background.
Thank you, I shall check out your link, sir.
InspectorWingnut said, 3 months ago
Well, Koppelman is condescending and dis-respectful for starters. I’ve noticed the debunkers claim to have facts that counter the questions of the authenticity of Obama’s “Certificate of Live Birth” but they never produce any. Koppelman’s piece is like the others I’ve read, after two or three paragraphs of charging “birthers” with being irrational and ignorant bumpkins, and exclaiming about the impossibility of “birthers” having a point, they move on to their piece d’ la resistance (help me out, CorFrog). And after ginning up the suspense, they offer their limp-wristed proof, which falls flat. From Koppelman’s transcripted quotes, one can’t make any conclusions they are so garbled. I guess we’ll never know?
That link is good fro my side, I’m going to repost it: http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/2008/12/05/birth_certificate/

A document with virtually no information?! Except of course name, date of birth, city and county of birth, time of birth, sex, parents’ names and race, and the date the certificate was filed by the registrar. “No information” indeed.
And you can’t make any conclusions based on the transcript, eh? Doesn’t seem to change the conclusion you’ve already reached. Of course you can reach a conclusion, Pup. It’s just not in keeping with your agenda, so you don’t want to.
Look, the very idea that all of this was planted (particularly the newspaper announcement) as part of a conspiracy to get a guy born in Kenya elected to be president of the United States is on its face ridiculous. Nobody who claims this should ever be taken seriously.
Not coincidentally, you are not being taken seriously. Don’t get too down on Koppelman for being condescending. By and large, condescension is an understandable reaction to conspiracy theories.
