…Let freedom ring!

I had never noticed that the Roman Numerals, MDCCLIII, on the Liberty Bell stood for the date of 1753 until a few moments ago.
I don’t remember reading about the Pennsylvania Colony politicians having ordered it to be made.
I was confused because I had thought the bell was not made until after 1776.

Oh, the Bible verse cited on the bell is from the Bible book of Leviticus. According to tradition, Moses “wrote” the book when he and the Israelites were wandering around in the Wilderness of the Sinai and they didn’t even have a country yet.
The source of the inscription is Leviticus 25:10, which reads “And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubilee unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.”
