Well put, Citizen.
But how many people really understand why it is so important to separate Church and State? It’s not just because the Constitution rejects a state religion and any religious test for public office. It’s not just millennia of religious intolerance, massacres, and wars. It’s that a free country must base its system on justice, which implies reliance on facts and logic. But facts and logic are explicitly rejected by faith which is the foundation for all religions. If religions were based on reality, we wouldn’t have so many of them, all disagreeing.
Despite the faith-based dreams of those who hope to impose their religous views on others via government, if the government and religion are not separated, freedom loses, along with the rest of us.

Separation of church and state is good for both religion and politics.

Good comment pschearer! Countries that haven’t appeared to seriously separate church / state include Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan. It worked so well for them, I see why some Americans wish to try it. (Please start your own country so my tax dollars aren’t promoting your god.)
