Funny thing, since a fertilized egg is not a baby; but surely the “baby-killers” would be the ones who oppose the easy availability of contraceptives and appropriate sex education to prevent pregnancy in the first place (thus raising the need for and chances of “emergency contraception”!), and those who oppose the funding of maternal health/well-baby clinics, those who oppose food programs for the poor, and those who support the unrestricted, unsafe proliferation of guns no matter how many children are killed.

It’s easy. If you don’t want kids, don’t have sex. Works every time. You’re welcome.

Gosnell is highjacking the Democratic Party? (Oh, did he run against Sanford in South Carolina?) Who is defending Gosnell? (Aside from his lawyer.)

I agree, Lynne B, But, I say that the fertilized egg IS the baby……in my opinion…
We need a better people, NOT conservative laws…Thru education and knowledge, and love, the better people will happen…

Extremists are the problem…that and lying….
Lying is the twisting of the truth and not telling the whole truth…
I am here to counterbalance things..
We , IMO, have too many conservatives..
Or, closer to the truth …we have too many liars and extremists…who just happen to be conservatives…

    @Orthodox Catholic

Wow. What an astonishing amount to get wrong.

Statements made in defiance of reality:

    - "We are not talking about “fertilized eggs” here. We are talking about the killing of already born children who were not wanted. "

Well no; I mean, this cartoon is talking about the availability of over-the-counter Plan B and the availability of legal abortion – none of that is “killing babies already born”, by any stretch of the imagination.

    - “We have tried to present appropriate sex education, which is abstinence and teaching children that sex belongs to marriage alone.”

That’s not appropriate sex education, that’s grotesquely ineffective sex education. There isn’t a single context where those programs have actually worked to decrease rates of teen pregnancy or STD transmission; and many of them also present inaccurate and misleading information about interventions which can prevent those things.

    - “Your NEA teachers, 30% of whom are child molesters who are shuffled from school to school…”

Wow, that’s quite the accusation. Got anything to back that up? (Must also note the irony of it coming from a Catholic.)

    - “have, for the last 30-40 years, promoted sex among elementary school children, with the approval of Planned Parenthood.”

Again, that’s quite the accusation. I’m afraid it is also one based in a rather nasty brand of imagination.

    - “They are taught in school every day that their bodies are nothing more than sex toys, that life is all about getting sex, and that they are mere animals who cannot resist these urges, therefore they MUST give in.”

To be perfectly honest, there is a degree of truth in this, but it’s not Planned Parenthood doing it, OR sex education programs; lay this at the feet of movies, TV, internet, video games, music, clothing stores, and potentially every vector of popular culture. We’ve dealt with school-age girls who consider Playboy to be a “popular brand” of clothes and accessories.

Planned Parenthood education programs are some of the only ones that teach kids that sex, pregnancy and STDs are linked…but that there are ways of dealing with it in a safe and responsible manner.

But Planned Parenthood don’t run the school programs…sadly. If they did, maybe more school programs would actually be effective.

    - “Smart move by Planned Parenthood. They infiltrate the schools and make sure to have a whole new generation of customers for abortions.”

Except that Planned Parenthood do far more to try to ensure that abortions are not needed than any “abstinence only” program has ever done, by giving people reality-based information on contraception and pregnancy, making affordable contraceptives available…and providing accurate counseling without pressure.

    - “Yet you would defend them and make fun of teaching children that we can abstain and wait for marriage.”

Well, you DID get that part right; because Planned Parenthood makes health services affordable and available for millions of people, as well as accurate and useful information about contraception – and becuase as I linked above, abstinence programs are utterly useless and don’t help.

    - “The Catholic Church has over 8,000 apostolates in this country alone which care for the poor, the homeless, the hungry, and those who need help.”

The Catholic Church is an organisation which, through its policies on womens’ rights and contraception, guarantee that many families can never break out of poverty. Having done much to contribute to poverty and the spread of diseases which destabilize entire communities, though, having made sure that the poor continue to exist in great numbers, the Catholic Church then congratulates itself on how much it does to care for the results.

Plan B is NOT abortion. It operates by preventing ovulation through high-dose hormones. If an egg has already been released, Plan B is not effective.

THAT’S interesting. Thanks for the opinion. Yeah that’s right, until you give a reference to either your credentials OR a reference to where to find the information as stated by an expert then it is only your opinion.

But now I can look it up myself.

    @Lynne B

Sorry to interject but why are you using talking points?

First read the toon again and notice in the last frame the woman who is subject 1 holding a paper with the headlines “Gosnell trial” which definitively places the toon subject on the abortion clinic activities and not on the Plan
B which is a minor actor listening in. By the way, a fertilized ovum implanted in the womb of a human will in fact produce what we call a “baby”. Or do you have proof that it ain’t so?

On Sex ed: Hey, I’m all for it. But you need to widen your perspective. Read something other than planned parenthood stuff.

    http://www.gale.cengage.com/pdf/samples/sp743340.pdf

    http://www.catholiceducation.org/articles/sexuality/se0007.html

Is it propaganda? Sure, isn’t that true of Planned Parenthood stuff as well?

And you say that PP provides “accurate counseling without pressure”. Hmmmm. Ok. Bow I’ll go along with that. But they also provide access to hundreds of thousands of abortions every year. A total of over 54 million dead “babies” (prove that a single one of those abortions if left to term would NOT have resulted ina baby) since their inception.

I get your hate on the Catholic church. I don’t like organized religion either. However, the church has never done what you say. Those that are members and have decided to adhere to the tenets are n under no obligation, no threat, no requirement to do any of the things involved. Their only enforcement comes from within (conscience) and Sister Lynne the only organization that makes sure the poor continue to exist in great numbers is “government”. I would say that the “church” does more good than harm on this level. Care to help?
