Quite right! Heaven forbid people get the health care they need! What could be next, treating others as you would want to be treated?

“………Obamacare is TAKING AWAY the healthcare that people want from over 250 million people…….”
    .
People really want a system where 20,000 die annually because they can’t get affordable health care and 700,000 declare bankruptcy (Harvard University)?
    .
    Who knew?

No, we want a system in which we have enough Docs to treat all the people. When ochre gets fully implemented, we will have fewer people going into medicine. With the Obama policies of lowering the reimbursement to doctors, we are already seeing fewer docs accepting Medicare patients. Hold onto your pants. It will get much worse.

So the doctors in your country are only in it for the money and don’t give a damn about their patients?

(I’m learning SO MUCH about America on these boards.)

In a capitalist society one must “capitalize” on one’s skills.

Currently, it takes a lot of money to invest in the education required to become a doctor. You do remember YOUR student loans do you not? And you’re just the academic kind not the health care provider kind.

So then you have this to think about:

    BS – 20K to 100K
    Med School – 120K to 180K
    then – residency

Now “private” practice? Well now, count the cost. Office space, receptionists, nurses, equipment and advertising to gain clients, and oh yeah don’t forget to form a corporation so you have a business foundation from which to pay taxes, salaries and mundane expenses for things like power and water. So the fact that the government is reducing the amount they will “cover” for medicare patients should not effect the way a doctor looks at his business?

Tell me Doc, how do they do it in the great frozen north?

Doctors are paid considerably less in other countries but seem to be able to attract enough doctors.
    .
If America goes from 45 million without health insurance coverage to about 23 million (and hopefully to zero with improvements) under Obamacare, more hospitals and doctors will be required. Countries with universal health care have gone through this and they immediately started building more hospitals and incentivizing students to go into medicine. And the economy boomed from all that construction. Doesn’t seem like a challenge America can’t handle. Not as challenging as putting a man on the moon, for example.

    “Now “private” practice?”

Bruce, you neglected to mention the expense that will automatically make any doctors blood pressure rise, their medical liability/malpractice insurance. Add to that being in a litigious state like California and it is a constantly escalating expense that is driving a lot of doctors out of private practice to just work with hospitals or “corporate clinics.”

OH YEAH, right you are. I TOTALLY forgot that one.

But then it just adds to the problem and keeps people from considering that career path.

So what IS the Canadian solution?

Ever try to get a hotel room along the Canadian border on a weekend? The Canadian solution is to let everyone that can afford it cross the border for medical/dental care.
