Chuck Asay sifts the events of the day through his biblical worldview and tries to persuade readers to see things his way...that rights are given by a higher authority than the governments of men, that mankind is not the ultimate arbiter of truth and that our Constitutional Republic is worth protecting. Chuck believes ideas, not politicians rule the world. He tries to protect ideas which he thinks are good and attacks ideas he thinks bring harm.

WTF does this cartoon mean? Because Hagel and Kerry are confirmed (no sure either’s status right now) the US is destroyed?

I so don’t get it. DC is turned into an Apocolyptic wasteland because two Viet Nam vets serve in key cabinet positions? The end of the world? Really? And I thought we’d escaped that once Romney failed to be elected president.

Lately Chucks editorial comics have been in poor taste. A couple days ago he depicted a school shooting & today’s it’s the destruction of the USA. I get what he’s trying to say & heartily disagree with the message.

actually, most of us ’Nam vets realize the futility of aggression
and would prefer a peaceful dialogue when possible

Apparently D.C. is attacked and the reporter is musing how could this happen, since Kerry and Hagel both were in Nam they should have foretold this and prevented it from happening? I agree with furnituremaker, avoid any armed conflict whenever possible. I can’t even fathom what being the head of the Defense dept would entail, but I can’t imagine that shlepping a rifle through the mud in a jungle gives you that much future qualification for the job. Maybe the memories of trying to avoid getting your ass shot off would make you less disposed to initiating armed conflicts?

Kerry and Hagel served in Viet Nam and allowed America to lose that war. They’ll allow America to lose other wars too.

How about defining exactly how they “prefer to appease our enemies”? Because it seems to me that that accusation is usually leveled at people who don’t believe in military adventurism, or adhere to the philosophy “we will continue to prop up your oppressors, destabilize your societies, and randomly blow up your loved ones until we feel sufficiently beloved”.

Hey Chuck, I’ve got a idea for your next cartoon. How about a reporter, a donkey and an elephant standing on the rubble of the twin towers. The reporter says “I don’t understand, both Bush and Cheney dodged the draft during the Vietnam war.” That would be hilarious.

Two things strike me. One is again denigrating Vietnam vets. Two, would republicans “harp” on their military background if they were nominating them?

OK geniuses, it’s:
hyperbole:
1.
obvious and intentional exaggeration.
2.
an extravagant statement or figure of speech not intended to be taken literally, as “to wait an eternity.”
Cartoonist use it all the time (I would hope that some of these guys are not being literal) to make a point.
So remember that the Vietnam …uh….war was the one where the radical left started really lambasting the US Government, castigating service members and demonstrating (with a little violence thrown in) against US policy. You do remember that right?
But today, being a Vietnam vet (a group of which I am a proud member) is supposed to mean you are an automatic patriot and fierce defender of the USA.
Kerry became a strong voice in the anti-war movement, speaking at and organizing protests and testifying before the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. He famously asked the committee, “How do you ask a man to be the last man to die in Vietnam? How do you ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake?”
Was he then proud of his service? You decide.

I suppose that Chuck believes both of these nominees would NOT make the right decisions in a crisis and leave the country vulnerable to attack.
Whatever. Bring them ALL home NOW and let’s get out of the war business

Bruce, I’ll make this very simple for you.
Viet Nam was a mistake.
The Iraq War was a mistake.
Hagel and Kerry were right and are patriots to have spoken up about it. History has already vindicated them. Only the most blind students of history still believe there were American interests in these conflicts.
