It’s sad to watch the 47%‘rs brag about the fact that they don’t have to work and contribute to the guberment because they are owed dignity and respect simply because they were born in America. Not unlike the 8 year old bragging that he doesn’t have to brush his teeth at night because his parents don’t make him.

You are only hurting yourself. You will grow up and realize that there is a moral hazard to looting money from the productive to pay the indolent. In the mean time I’m teaching my kids to be hard working, citizens that pay for the upkeep of the government and support themselves.

You may be living large on someone else’s hard work today but that won’t last for long. Look what happened to much of Europe: Greece, Ireland and Spain most especially. Africa is a perfect example of what happens when the looters are allowed to take whatever they want. Nobody produces infrastructure because it can be taken away form them at a moments notice.

Chuck Assay hit this one on the head and I say Bravo!!!!

Obama’s Free Stuff is a nonsensical oft repeated line. The number of Rush wannabe’s is disappointing.

I started working when I was 11 in New Orleans. after 60 years of working and paying taxes I retired. Nobody gave me anything for free! Not a Republican not a Democrat. Wish I knew where all this free stuff has been hiding!

You are not paying attention. People who do not pay income tax get a tax refund check. AKA Free Stuff. Just one example.

People who don’t owe income tax are supposed to get refunds. That’s how it works.
    .
Fortunately only a sliver of the country’s radical right hate groups think there’s something wrong with this.

Your normally astute observations are degenerating into liberal bias propaganda my brother.

Here’s an interesting little article. How true is it? well…..we report, you decide…LOL

“nonsensical” ? Please elaborate and explain how the historically expanding “entitlements” is nonsensical. No one is as blind as those that do not WANT to see. (the truth)

Working in New Orleans? That makes you one of the 25% there. Even before Katrina “entitlements” were pervasive. Must be geographic … can’t be any other common factor.

Redneck: Ooooh, Social Security and Medicare are going broke; they won’t be there for me when I retire. Fix it, Obama.

Obama: "Ok, we’ll take a few bucks from your income now and the programs will be funded forever. Can’t get something if you don’t pay for it.

Redneck: No-o-o-o-o-o; my paycheck is smaller now. I should get Free Stuff.

That “free stuff” has been hiding in the minds of Conservatives -and still is.

Sorry. A lifetime of work doesn’t matter. You are now a “taker”. It’s similar to the Republican health care plan – don’t get sick or retire, but if you do get sick or retire, die quickly so you won’t mess up our profits.

Thank you for the clarity and insight in your excellent post. You remind me of Riders of the Purple Wage, a 1967 novel by Philip Jose Farmer in which half the country lives in indolence off a “purple wage” that one is entitled to merely by being born. Highly recommended reading. As you might expect, this fictional society shared many of the problems we now face in the real one.
