Chuck Asay sifts the events of the day through his biblical worldview and tries to persuade readers to see things his way...that rights are given by a higher authority than the governments of men, that mankind is not the ultimate arbiter of truth and that our Constitutional Republic is worth protecting. Chuck believes ideas, not politicians rule the world. He tries to protect ideas which he thinks are good and attacks ideas he thinks bring harm.

^ “I used to like that guy.”
Then he said something that I disagreed with and my feelings instantly turned to endless hatred. It’s the Conservative way.

what, learning new information and using it to inform your opinions? What’s your way?

what, learning new information and using it to inform your opinions?

-————————-I believe you might have misinterpreted.
.
As I see it, DrCanuck has expressed the idea that the character in the lower right (Asay perhaps?) already had formulated an opinion and had his mind made up.
.
Costas said something that called into question that firmly-held opinion and
-Asay’s- the reaction is “I used to like that guy.”.
Frankly, I disagree with the conclusion that they “…both would be alive today”; guns are not the only means to commit murder and suicide.
.
But each is entitled to his own opinion.

No, what I am pointing out is the conservatives’ inability to differentiate an idea from the person who holds the idea. It’s quite impossible for them to still like a person who holds an opinion different from theirs. That situation immediately makes him the ENEMY.

More canuck spewing his mindless liberal bilge and his arrogant, illogical, inconsistent worldview.

Inconsistent? Illogical? Au contraire. Quite logical. He’s pointing out that some folks cannot differentiate between an idea held by someone from the person who holds it.
I often fall into that trap myself. At least I admit it.
I think you like to call it: “Hate the sin, love the sinner”. Does it make it easier to understand the concept if I say it that way?
You should stop hating so much though.

What the hell do handguns have to do with the constitution?

“Blame the constitution” – or suggest that one fragment of a useful document drawn up by Eighteenth century gentleman farmers for a federation of small far-flung agricultural communities newly emerged from a revolutionary war might need a little tweaking for a massive 21st Century post-industrial country?

Notice how exoticdoc did EXACTLY what I said he’d do?
I’ve sure got HIS number.

It’s a slippery slope. Once you start messing with the Constitution, what’s next? The Bible?

If the Founding Fathers didn’t feel we should have the right to own and shoot revolvers, rifles, sawed-off shotguns, machine guns, rocket-propelled grenade launchers, and shoulder-mounted tactical nuclear missiles, they wouldn’t have written the 2nd amendment.

If he hadn’t had a gun, he would have used a knife, a baseball bat, his fists, whatever was handy. The gun has nothing to do with, violence and perhaps drugs, has everything to do with it.

No, what I am pointing out is the conservatives’ inability to differentiate an idea from the person who holds the idea.

-——————————-This leads me to believe that we are saying the same thing, but with different words:
1) Me:
The “Asay” character has a strong opinion that is countered by Costas (or anyone else) and when confronted with a different perspective says, “I used to like that guy” (making him an enemy).
2) You:
No, what I am pointing out is the conservatives’ inability to differentiate an idea from the person who holds the idea.
.
Aren’t they the same?
