Chuck Asay sifts the events of the day through his biblical worldview and tries to persuade readers to see things his way...that rights are given by a higher authority than the governments of men, that mankind is not the ultimate arbiter of truth and that our Constitutional Republic is worth protecting. Chuck believes ideas, not politicians rule the world. He tries to protect ideas which he thinks are good and attacks ideas he thinks bring harm.

All new this month, the get-high corner! No responsibility for your actions here or after you die! Live like no one is watching you! Spend other people’s money like there is no tomorrow! Don’t have to make decisions, just vote for the one who promises you the most free stuff! Life is great being a liberal!

The religious, political and class bigotry on the left is the post-modern American culture.

The stats point out that liberals go to church more regularly than conservatives. Imagine that.

Yes,Dave, but the liberals don’t wear their magic underwear (as observed by the man standing on the sacramental wine barrel).

While the cartoon overstates the problem, I do see liberals who demand tolerance for their lifestyle choices but become intolerant of a cross on the interstate where a loved one died. I see extreme liberals demand religious people keep their symbols out of sight and out of mind while demanding their own freedoms be tolerated and even appreciated. In San Francisco, nudists are demanding the right to be nude in public even though this offends most religious people as well as a few atheists. Lets face it folks, there are some folks, me included, who should just keep some things out of sight and out of mind. We don’t want to frighten the children.
Freedom of expression has become the freedom to offend. Whether it’s Westboro Baptist Church protesting at the military funerals of soldiers as a way to attack gays, or a religious symbol installed on public lands but not at public expense, Freedom of Expression has been corrupted. And Seperation of church and state has become a reason to keep religious symbols out of sight while putting secular symbols for the same holidays anywhere you want.
We want people to tolerate our freedoms but that requires we also show tolerance to others to the degree we can.
Respectfully,
& Happy Holidayze.

I don’t think there’s any great liberal demand for public nudity. There may be a nudist demand for public nudity, but there is no equation between nudists and liberals. I’m not sure i understand you comment about frightening the children. There are lots of societies in which people walk around with little or no clothing, and the children seem to get used to it, because it’s the norm. I do agree with the general sense of your post — liberals should respect the beliefs of others — and I think they generally do — so long as they don’t infringe on the rights of others. I have no objection if people display religious symbols on their own property.

For once I agree with Chuck. Religious people ruin the party.

yeah, I’m wondering that too.

I believe I’ve seen/heard/read more liberal complaining about tea-partiers than religious people in the last four years. Either way, having religious people in any group isn’t ruinous (Chillbilly), having unreasonable people that are unchecked is. The irony of this cartoon is that Mr. Asay is critisizing the liberals for their distorted view of his party, while he simultaneously illustrates his distorted view of theirs. To reference my religion: Mr. Asay should take the plank from his own eye before critisizing others for the speck in theirs.

I wonder if Mr. Asay, and others who share his “biblical world view”, has ever wondered if increased access to birth control would lead to decreased demand for abortion.
Even Bristol Palin stated that abstinence-only sex education was “unrealistic”, until someone paid her a quarter mil to say otherwise.

Political movements (and cultural ones) historically have a tendency to swing to wide extremes when they are new and then settle down towards the center as time goes on. Right now the liberal element of our country is euphoric, feeling salubrious, but unfortunately less than tolerant. I’m with "C " on this one. But then I’m old and boring.
I would only caution the liberals to remember the defeats they had suffered from 1969 to 1992 (with the brief interrupt of Carter). Politics is a fickle mistress. My real concern today is the proverbial “can” is being kicked once more about real change in our spending and tax codes. This raise taxes mantra is great for political purposes, but it does little to nothing to resolve our fiscal problems. The mantra from the democrats now is to make a deal on taxes to avoid the “fiscal cliff” and that will provide us a framework to deal with the more substantive issues “later.” Unfortunately later often never comes…
