Once again, Chuck nails it. The American mainstream media is no longer the free press envisioned by Thomas Jefferson–a press skeptical of government, zealously serving as a watchdog for Liberty.

Instead, the media is a cheerleader for government–part of an orchestrated brainwashing effort to make everyone think alike, sound alike, behave alike, vote alike.

Too bad the Demoncrats don’t bray about “Separation of Press and State!” with the same fanatical zeal they devote to ensuring that Christianity doesn’t get any favorable treatment in the public square.

If not for the Fox News Channel, televsion news would be one gigantic wasteland of State worship–visual Pravda. Only Fox is ever skeptical of government, and of politicians who portay themselves as being benevolent gods and goddesses concerned only about the plight of THE!!!! POOR!!!, even as they busily tax and regulate the poor into even worse poverty…

All of that IS the news media trying to interview the 4 people that showed up. Turns out they were just lost. Look hard you can see the 4 of them in the middle leaving.

Isn’t Asay part of the media?
It’s his style of “reporting” & commenting on news that creates the mistrust.

The owners/publishers/editors at MSM deeply, sincerely believe that statism (in the good sense) is what is best for the US. They know that they themselves are the best and the brightest so cannot understand anyone who disagrees.

When they see millions in opposition to their views it is just beyond their ken. They ignore, ridicule, belittle etc because if they don’t maybe, just maybe, they themselves might be wrong and that is just not a possible explanation.

Asay is part of the media. He is a commentator through his artwork.

Commentators don’t necessarily create the mistrust unless they just spew the same ideological arguments over and over. If you don’t like a commentator, don’t watch them. They are like any sitcom or drama on TV. Some commentators do put opposing views on the air though.

The biggest cause of mistrust is “so called” hard news media that denegrades the public, ignore stories, or only reports certain aspects of stories because the stories don’t agree with their philosophies. Reporters should “report” all the news and not comment on it. Newspapers should report all the news except on the editorial page. TV news anchors should not interview people with the obvious agenda of making someone look stupid (Charlie Gibson, Katie Couric…snicker..) or interview someone with softballs to try to make them look great. Interview them and let them speak so the public can make up their mind on what to think of the interview.

Nearly all the news shows anymore are nothing more than commentary. There is very little news available anymore.

Of course, Asay somehow left out the signs with swastikas, and comparing the President to zoo animals, and calling the President a Nazi, and stating they were unarmed THIS time.. Also, a responsible reporter wouldn’t try and estimate the size of the crowd, he would rely on an estimate from an official source, such as the official fire department estimate of 70,000.

The funny thing is, when Fox reports a clearly massively exaggerated crowd of 2 million, and avoids any sign of violent or racist attendees, no one loses confidence in them. The reason? People, on both the left and the right, EXPECT Fox to lie.

Asay obviously NEVER watches Jon Stewart’s show.

Otherwise he’d never have released this strip.

There’s something very sad about Chuck Assay and Fox and the “Tea Party” marchers. And that’s their inability to deal with reality. Particularly Assay. The first rule of being a cartoonist is: be funny. Be biting. Be provvocative. Be contrary. Be whatever you like. But agree with you or not, be funny. Make me smile.

wminefield, I agree with your assessment of our state of media today, far too much commentary, entertainment, rather than old fashioned journalism and straight reporting.

I’ve found Shep Smith on Fox to be the best of that network, and some news programs on CNN earlier in the day are straight forward news.

I’ve come to really dislike all the twittering and airing comments on FaceBook pages. There’s no news there, it’s a ratings ploy, I guess.

From reliable news reporting from DC the number was estimated at 75 thousand. Beck inflated that number to 2 million. Fox news is not reporting, it is propaganda. I will remember that Shep Smith seems to be the best of the lot and watch him to see what he has to say. I find myself turning off Bill O’Reilly and Glenn Beck after a few minutes because they infuriate me with their reactionary propaganda.

The reason why is because of biased editorialists such as yourself. I have yet to see one of your cartoons that approved of anything this Administration has done, and that includes bailing out the Bankers, which was actually started by the bush Administration.
