This one hits the nail on the head. The current salary (2009) for rank-and-file members of the House and Senate is $174,000 per year. Many make millions from their private endeavors. I would rather see term limits and stricter penalties for getting in bed with lobbyists and special interests. They all say they want to serve the people, so it is time to truly get people in that want to serve the people and not themselves or their wallets.

Full disclosure is the answer. Obama rejected federal funding and took in $744.9 million while McCain accepted federal funding and only took in $346.6 million according to the FEC website

Amazing, I agree the politicians should be required to wear sponsor logos. However, there really should still be limits on what they can accept, receive or benefit from.

BigEar, are not states controlled by political parties? So who is the paymaster? Who decides the ratio? When do you ever think things through?

  9. Ian Valenzuela

I agree, that would be a good idea. Also, the Astroturf protestors should get stickers to show who they are being manipulated by. The stickers should be proportionate to the amount of money taken. United Healthcare would have to admit how many Congressmen and Senators it owns, and how many millions of pages of its Talking Points it has supplied to all the Teabaggers.

    LOVE IT!!
Obama would have a tattoo of Chicago political machine and Acorn owed printed right across the for head. Bill Clinton could have had Made in China printed on his butt, Hilliary would not have seen it but at least it would have been sitting on the desk in the oval office.

HQ, if we pay you a dollar each, to keep for your very own, with no taxes to pay on it, would it make you keep your immaturity level down? Adults are writing here. Please note that every poster seems to agree with Asay here, which is unusual. Here comes HQ to vomit on discourse. You stay classy, HQ.

All the stickers for the democrats would be for the following:
NEA, NAACP, ACLU, GREEN PEACE, PLANNED PARENTHOOD, UNITED WAY, NGLTF, NAMBLA, BRADY CAMPAIGN, Rainbow Coalition, Liberal Arts Endowment, Civil Marriage Collaborative , Don’t Amend.com, Entre Hermanos , Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund, Gill Foundation, GLAAD, GLSEN , Green Party of Seattle, Lifelong AIDS Alliance, Rainbow Center of Pierce County, Stonewall Democrats of Washington, Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, PFLAG, Americans United for Separation of Church and State, GLBT Bar Association of Washington, NOW, etc.

The Republican stickers would be for:
NRA, PRO-LIFE, PRO-FAMILY, CONSERVATIVE GROUPS ETC.

I wonder who would win then?

    GNWachsGenius_badge said, 2 months ago

Because of their superior PB abilities and the help of the MSM the Democrats have convinced many liberal Americans that all the big contributors and lobby’s are Pro-Republican. In reality, as I posted elsewhere, the top 5 campaign contributors and 9/10 in total dollars are leftist. Unions, lawyers, Soros types. There will never ever be a banning of those because no Democrat would favor that.

But as 2008 proved campaign finance in addition to be unconstitutional doesn’t accomplish its main goal. It is in reality an incumbent re-election aid. Look at the billion $$ actually spent by private contributors.

ROFL! The righties have fought EVERY effort to reduce influence peddling, take in huge sums, then leap forward to throw trash at libs?? NRA, BIG OIL, DEFENSE INDUSTRY, AEI, BIG PHARMA, CONAGRA, CARGILL, BofA, CITICORP, AIG, ENRON,– to take a striper all caps line- have soaked the right in money, and the rest of us in debt for decades, and Asay’s followers are buying paint for their pots.

Strict rules, enforced, and some public financing of campaigns, with complete disclosure, would accomplish a tad, but questionable how much good at this time with “think tanks” hiding their real purpose under lofty (but moth eaten) banners proclaiming civic good as their purpose, instead of the phony propaganda they pump out.

You gotta love how anyone would think only the other side would be covered in ads. If Assay’s idea (which I love) was put into action, the biggest surprise would be that both politicians are covered in 90% the same stickers.

    Dtroutma,

Of all the stuff you put on the right BIG OIL, DEFENSE INDUSTRY, AEI, BIG PHARMA, CONAGRA, CARGILL, BofA, CITICORP, AIG, ENRON

You can put the same on Obama and the Democrats except the defense industry. You could also add GM and Chrysler plus the whole stimulus package, acorn and most recently the 2 billion to brazil under Obama.

Both D’s and R’s would be shown wearing stickers from competing companies (Coke & Pepsi Microsoft and Apple you name it) …at least the first time.

Sorry I know any mention of Clinton and the skirt chasen in the same pp is bad, Poor Bill. LOL

Of Course you don’t get onto ivan for bagging reference. I think that is much lower brow then anything I wrote.

Love the Goagre Soros reference to the billions we gave Brazil and in the spirit of bipartismship and upping the level of discourse. I wonder which sponsors W would have to put on his forehead for the billions he gave to Africa for “aids”

Any law limiting the amounts of money legislators could receive from their sponsors would have to be approved by the legislators themselves.
Are you kidding me? It’s been a long time ago since I stopped sucking my thumb.
No wonder there is a third party playing the cards: “Demopublicans”
