Chuck Asay sifts the events of the day through his biblical worldview and tries to persuade readers to see things his way...that rights are given by a higher authority than the governments of men, that mankind is not the ultimate arbiter of truth and that our Constitutional Republic is worth protecting. Chuck believes ideas, not politicians rule the world. He tries to protect ideas which he thinks are good and attacks ideas he thinks bring harm.

The last time I looked at the “research” behind the evidence that denies global warming, it was the exact same folks that decades earlier that generated “research” showing that smoking didn’t cause cancer, and then research that showed that second hand smoke wasn’t a health risk. Well, even the Bush administration announced that second hand smoke could kill you, proving its just a matter of waiting out the wackos.
The problem is that the people who listen to the right-wing wackos don’t have the inclination or capacity to distinguish between actual research done in Universities, and propaganda done by industry. The right-wing radio and online smear industries pass along sheer nonsense written by guys in a garage who make money by putting together fake numbers that seem plausible to someone who doesn’t know anything about the subject.

Or maybe micheal, we payed attention in science class. You see there is this thing called the sun, and it has been in a quit stage for he last 10 years. Temps have been down in the last 10 years. Then there is this thing called the water cycle, it is responsible for 97% of the weather.
But no lets blame it on CO2 which makes up .038% of the atmosphere. It is plant food. Wet lands spit out more CO2 then man.
But I guess you can not tax cap and trade the plunder of non man made CO2 or the real causes of weather.

I think you could easily change the cartoon thus: the clown behind the fence represents Republican scare tactics about healthcare reform. (Death to seniors! Marxism run amok!)
It’s hard to scare people when they know the status quo isn’t working.
And Asay asserts that there are more and more “defiant” deniers. Yeah, right. And the lawyers that the “defiant” birthers employ are top notch legal minds. You got nothin but hate.
DrCanuck said, 3 months ago
Sigh. Evolution deniers, climate-change deniers, birthers, moon-landing deniers, Holocaust deniers, reality deniers, deniers of all things firmly backed by evidence from science and history; yet all too ready to believe in invisible magical beings who live in the sky, for which there is neither reason nor evidence.

Hey Dr. how are my facts any different then your propaganda put out by preacher of global warming Al Gore? I mean 35 critical “mistakes” where found in his horror flick. All of which where on the side of a “warming” of the earth. Can we say agenda. I mean it is not like he has set himself up to profit from global warming or anything…
Maybe he can debate someone or even one of those “peer reviews” on his movie? Instead he runs and hides.
DrCanuck said, 3 months ago
ezdeb: gorgeouser and gorgeouser!
HQ: the “mistakes” found were primarily in the imaginations of the deniers, not the movie itself. I am under no obligation to address your misconceptions. Neither is Gore, for that matter. There is no point in debating deniers or birthers; no amount of reason or evidence can change their iron-clad beliefs.

How can Asay claim that deniers are growing in number? We’ve all watched the progression, even in people like Bush, go from “there is no global warming” to “well there is, but it isn’t caused by man” to “hey, maybe we should do something about it.”
Michael’s post is the best. Just follow the money. All the so-called science “disproving” global warming is funded by the oil industry, just like all the so-called science “disproving” tobacco’s harm came from the tobacco industry.
Unfortunately for the planet, there are plenty of people like Nandy and Harley who’ll swallow all that biased stuff. One can only imagine they’ve got some investment in the oil companies, and are putting that before our general welfare.

Really Dr.? And you say I am the one with a closed mind. Tell me this is CO2 a pollutant? What makes up “green house gas” and why is it “not” good and something we have to fight? I say both are good things for our planet and we can not change them by any measure of “cap and trade”
But you go and stick your head back in the sand and I will keep asking questions you do not wish to answer.
edrush said, 3 months ago
Sooner or later, the climate-change deniers will walk off the edge of their flat Earth, and we’ll be rid of them. Maybe they’ll be hand-in-hand with the “birther” nutcases.

Harley, you seem to be one of those posters who ask questions with long answers that you could, had you really wanted to know, easily looked up yourself on the ‘net. Then, if no one does the work for you, you’d smugly claim the questions can’t be answered.
I’m not sure it would be appreciated by others for me to cut and paste the long answer to your question, Harley, since books have been written on it, but since you don’t seem to want to look it up for yourself, this is a good, non-biased discussion:
http://tinyurl.com/ynmsuw
Having read this, can you now explain why CO2 is good for our planet (and I’m talking excess levels). Work into your answer the fact that CO2 readily combines with water to produce carbonic acid, and that high CO2 levels trap heat in the atmosphere.

hardlyquinn: Are you the one with the closed mind, you ask. I’ll be glad to answer you. Yes.
In your sophomoric world, there can be only one cause to each effect. You state that global warming is caused EITHER by the sun or by man, and conclude that the sun is bigger and therefore THE cause.
Has it ever dawned upon you that there may be two or more causes to global warming, and that both might contribute? Or, horror of horrors, that there might even be an INTERACTION (go look it up)?
As for the rest of your questions, senor answers them perfectly.
And thanks, churchy, but you display your scientific illiteracy with that post. Science does not depend upon the beliefs of the voting public. Only evidence and reason.
Thereby endeth the lesson. For both of you-eth. Have you learned anything? Didn’t think so.

Harley………how long have you been out of the institution?
churchillwasright said, 3 months ago
DR.SHAMUCK: Here’s a first. I agree with you. Opinion polls have little if any meaning. I was just enlightening ANTHONY 2816 who asked “How can Asay claim that deniers are growing in number? ” in response to a quote in the cartoon. I should have made that clearer.
dtroutma said, 3 months ago
What amazes me about “deniers” is that the majority seem to be in that group that’s been waiting for 2,000 years for “their guy” to finally catch a bus, come back, and take them to their great Lazy Boys in the sky. Faith is only viable if based on some facts.
BTW, the amount of CO2 in our atmosphere is roughly equivalent to the percentage of matter in the universe-roughly .03 %. So, if matter doesn’t matter, like planets, suns etc, then I guess CO2 doesn’t either??
Nobody can say for certain how the universe began, but if we keep denying the obvious scientific facts, we can predict how significant species on this planet will end their reign. p.s. Homo Sapiens is NOT most likely to adapt to gross changes, and we’re a long way from the technology for intra-galactic travel to find a new home.

So you send me to a sight that “suggested” this and suggested that. But none of them can explain the last ten years where as CO2 has gone up yet temps have gone down. None of that explains how tax cap and trade the plunder will reduce CO2. Further more you are the ones that cry that we did not sign the kayto treaty. Funny thing is we already use our resources cleaner and wiser then almost any other country on the planet. Better and more improved then anyone that did sign the treaty. Yet You gorbull warmers want the USA to sign on to a job killing tax that will do nothing?
I am all for the environment! I work with the wet lands! Now that makes a change. But yet you global warmers are dead set in trying to change something you say that is in balence yet us humans by your own account are responsible for maybe .01% of the .038% that is in the atmosphere. Plus the USA is accounts for maybe a third of that!
So you go flush your own money down the drain on the clown Gore.

HARLEY, I’m going to explain it this way.
What I got out of it was, that in the last 10,000 years, this planet , has not been this ice free. We are now passing the 10,000 year mark. Do you know where your water comes from ? I dont really care about C02. But I know that if you run a hose from your exhaust pipe, to the inside of your car, with the windows up, and car running, you wont need to worry about C02. So HARLEY, you just want to keep on driving, while the rest of us, want to turn off the engine. Even if the planet was not heating up, the pollution is killing everything, trees, fish, people, even deforming babies. It’s time now, and not too soon, to be doing something about it.
PS, Dont let your hate of Al Gore, blind you to do what’s best for the planet.
I hate jerry lewis, but i still give to MS NBC.

And old bull, I want what is best for the planet. That is why I fight shake down artist like Al Gore. he takes money for his phony CO2 boogy man. He takes it from real work done say in the wet lands or other things that will help keep our water clean. The USA is not some big bad polluter compared to the rest of the world. Cap and trade will damage the work that can be done.

Really and if you have not noticed the record shows we are in now back in the loop for another ice age.
Why you may ask? Oh the spin of the earth wobbling on it’s axis. The sun cycle and a few other factors that are out of human reach.
But please tell me again how you are going to “save the world” with a tax and trade scheme. Sorry but I put that right up there with the phony one word slogans “hope and change”

ANTHONY, And to think, All this time I’ve been giving to the wrong group ? Muscle this or muscle that, It’s all good. But I used to say, “let Jerry take care of his own kid’s” no one needs his goofy @ss trying to take credit for anything. YEA, That’s what I said CHURCH, ” GOOFY @SS”, but still, aint the kid’s fault, and It has never kept me from giving. (Besides I can’t spell “Muscular Dystrophy”) It’s easier to just say MS.
CHURCH, if you like him, you must love puppy. You cant get any Goofier than that.
HARLEY, I Think the thing that sticks out the most in my mind, is that mountain in Africa What is it,…Oh, Kilimanjaro, yea that’s a hoax,… thing is,.. I cant figure out where they put the snow ? I know, Al Gore drove it all away one night. Thing is, I used to hear about this stuff back in the 60’s and no one listened ”
Take Paradise and put up a parking lot ”. Well it wont be long before Al Gore puts a parking lot on top of mount Kilimanjaro.
If you suck the oil and water out of the ground, and leave great big cavern’s, next thing you have is a crater. L.A. now sits on a big cave.Did you know that if you burn something up it’s not gone. it may blow away in the wind, but it’s not gone. nothing is every gone It just changes into something else. And that something else is killing this planet.
So keep telling people everything is just fine, and throw another tire on the fire, it’s OK. It’s all a hoax. When I was a kid, living in So. Cal, my eyes and lung’s would BURN in the afternoon because of smog, so dont say it dont happen, it’s happening all over the world right now. And every year it gets worse.
So if you dont have a plan, then sit down and shut-up, but I’m hoping you do, or someone does. If not then let Al do his thing.
but please, dont tell, or make people think, nothing’s wrong. just by shear numbers, the planet cant keep up, without changing something.
Well not a word got in your ear, did it ?

HARLEY, You keep talk about CAP AND TRADE, and C02, but looking at the bill, they’re talking about CARBON. Do you like CARBON,.. want a carbon sandwich, drink, or just a big lung full ? Here’s a Palin question, ” where do you think he, …… wait, where do you think it go’s, to Alaska ?
Maybe you should read the bill, but here’s a link to help you sort it all out. > http://www.cleantechblog.com/2009/07/cap-and-trade-how-it-works-and-why-its.html >
I dont think AL’S name is on it. maybe that’s why you dont want to talk about it. It’s not worth hating without GORE.
You know, it seems you hate GORE a lot more than you could ever care about CAP and TRADE . It just seems so secondary to your quest. (crusade). I hate GORE and I want the world to hate him as much as I do.

Is’nt natural CO-2 found in the environment at similar levels , Anthony? Answer HQ’s question once in a while instead of turning every discussion in to a fight - and maybe others will answer your questions. Sr.Winky is another combative Troll looking for kicks and can’t spell, either; or finish a thought, but no one insults him. That’s enough fault-finding for one day. In fact, let’s concentrate on the “Toons, like HQ does. They serve as the gateway for discussion here.

ezdeb - generally I am quite a calm individual. I believe you are confusing my parody of Al Gore and Libs with me. In fact, all the hysteria is another proof that Washington is not really worried about getting anything done…but filling the coffers of their contributors and keeping the electorate off balance. Meanwhile, the middle class is disappearing and being replaced by a gimmee, crack and sex-addicted, sociology-experiment-gone-bad populace and third-world immigrants (who are actually the moral future of the country!!!???). Al Gore shakes the tree for his financial interests (and his mental imbalance) and gets a Nobel prize for it. We - the least responsible - have to give up our capital and freedoms so the rich and influential can keep playing their games? On our dime?!! Shut down government, please. Put a four to eight year freeze on doing anything, at least : If you (the Congress) aren’t going to fix anything. Now, whats more calm than that?

Yes, and that so-called “consensus” that they had is starting to shrink as scientists go back over the research. No big surprise. Science will saw the limb right out from under these alarmists yet.
Most recently, the American Chemists Society’s editor-in-chief published an article advocating man-made global warming and speaking down his nose at so-called “Climate Change Deniers”. You know what happened? The scientists that work with him fired back with great force demanding his removal, stating that his report does not reflect their findings and that they don’t appreciate his condescending tone towards them.
In all reality, basic science will tell you that a concensus proves absolutely nothing. One of the scientists even said something I have known since high school science : Theories are not proven by consensus. They are proven by data from repeatable experimentation that leaves no doubt of interpretation.
If this trend continues the theory of man-made global warming will come out with little if any credibility.

David, if you Google “American Chemists Society”, well, there doesn’t seem to be one.
And if there is one, why would they be working on global warming? Not exactly chemistry.
Finally, the American Chemical Society produces dozens of journals. Assuming this American Chemists Society also does, which editor-in-chief are you talking about?
