Chuck Asay sifts the events of the day through his biblical worldview and tries to persuade readers to see things his way...that rights are given by a higher authority than the governments of men, that mankind is not the ultimate arbiter of truth and that our Constitutional Republic is worth protecting. Chuck believes ideas, not politicians rule the world. He tries to protect ideas which he thinks are good and attacks ideas he thinks bring harm.

Never met a dictator he didn’t like …

I guess rule of law only applies when it’s the rules you like, like most of Asay’s observations and followers.

Yeah Buzz. Like the Honduran constitution, which Zelaya was trying to circumvent.

During the campaign I kept on hearing we should mind our own business and not try and build democracy. Obama kept half his word. We interfered but we are not trying to build Democracy. If Bush would have supported a dictator the left would have gone bananas.

Now RIGHT WING dictators are just peachy keen? We’ve supported a bunch of them under Reagan, 41, and 43, and others. First question of “legitimate” governments we accept: “Got oil”?

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - What’s in a handshake? The clasping of hands by President Barack Obama and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has set off a debate over what kind of signal Obama was sending.
To the White House, the friendly Obama-Chavez encounter at a weekend summit of Latin leaders was a sign of a new U.S. foreign policy aimed at improving relations around the world.
“It’s unlikely that as a consequence of me shaking hands or having a polite conversation with Mr. Chavez that we are endangering the strategic interests of the United States,” Obama said.
But to some of his critics, the handshake was a sign of American weakness.
“Everywhere in Latin America, enemies of America are going to use the picture of Chavez smiling and meeting with the president as proof that Chavez is now legitimate, that he’s acceptable,” Republican Newt Gingrich, a former speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, told NBC’s “Today” show.
Obama and Chavez had two highly public encounters at the summit in Trinidad and Tobago – a handshake, a chat and then later when Chavez gave Obama a book, “The Open Veins of Latin America,” published in 1971 by Uruguayan Eduardo Galeano.

Pff, some people are overreacting. Obama has not defended Chavez, and Chavez is blaming the US for everything as usual. Here are some of his last comments - any sign of pro-Obama attitude?

Oh, and by the way - only last month Obama was being lectured that he should not support DESPOTS like “Ahmadinejad, Chavez, Castro, and Zelaya” by a certain Senator DeMint. Funny how now that Obama does not show further support, Zelaya is the victim.
I hope the GOP has more principles than that of partisanship, but recently it has been very shy about showing them.

4UK: I’ve read your post several times, and I can’t figure out what you’re trying to say. It’s either muddied, uninformed, partisan sniping, or all three.
Re: Par.1: Are you saying that despite Obama’s (naive) attempt to reach out to Chavez, his continued diatribe proves he wasn’t? Or the fact that despite backing Zalaya, Chavez continues to attack the U.S., and that somehow proves that Obama wasn’t reaching out to Chavez? Or that backing Zelaya has nothing at all to do with Chavez? I don’t know what you’re saying.
Re: Par. 2: Huh? Are you saying that the administration’s mild condemnation of Zelaya camping out on the Nicaragua-Honduran border is “not showing further support”? I’m just guessing– you don’t say what you’re taliking about. DeMint is blocking Obama’s nominee for Asst. Sec of State for Western Hemisphere affairs, Florida Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, the top Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, is trying to restore $20 million in aid to Honduras, and Connie Mack (R-FL) is out front against the administrations policy. Who has suddenly called Zalaya a victim? Again, I don’t know what you’re saying.
What I see are GOP principles. It’s the administration’s that worry me.

Zelaya? The man who tried to usurp power and violate his country’s constitution. Are you saying Obama should back him? Obama should join with Chavez and the Castro brothers to promote his unconstitutional actions?

Last time I checked, Washington condemned Honduras’s former dictator.
CogentModality said, 4 months ago
When was the last time you checked? During the Bush administration?
Washington has condemned the coup and called for Zelaya’s reinstatement. U.S. President Barack Obama cut $16.5 million in military aid and threatened to …”

Anthony,
You are starting to sound like a hate monger. I believe it was MKitt that stated the liberals are sure of themselves and do not have to do any name calling. You may want to check with him to make for sure you are not getting out of line.

Please! Do any of these psots have any special knowledge of the situation in Honduras, much less any of the other themes brought in here? At least do some research before you shoot off your mouths.

Hmm, apparently I didn’t read Asay’s comic straight. I thought he was mocking Obama for not supporting Zelaya. My bad.
