WE’RE LOSING ARE JOBS because the people on the bottom are making $5.50 an hour, that haven’t had a raise in 12 years, for a job we wouldn’t do for twice the price. If minimum wage sounds sweet to you, come and get one. And the pay is better now, too ! NO HEALTH CARE !

Congratulations Hopson–you did not blame Bush for the King Baroke nonsense–only Reagan from decades ago.

Yes Senor BS and Buzzy–let’s give everyone free healthcare and starting pay of $15 an hour and of course at the taxing expense of successful folks.

I dunno. You guys are already not competitive globally due to high labor costs. Your manufacturing sectors may take a bigger hit, forcing more jobs overseas. shrug

NO, IT COULDN’T BE the umpteen millions of dollars the CEO’S get for quiting their job after running a company into the ground, or the millions paid out to stockholders, who do no work. Yea, that dollar would do better in someone Else’s pocket, so we can continue to hand out food stamps and welfare, as if WE the taxpayer aren’t footing the bill so some can get RICHER. Pull your head out for some air. YOU’RE ALL READY PAYING FOR NOT PAYING A LIVING WAGE…..WAKE UP.The only thing you have to change is take one million away from a CEO to pay these people a living wage. after all if it weren’t for them there’d be no business ! Take another million away from the CEO or stockholders, and lower your price.
YOU’RE ALL such BIG BELIEVERS in the TRICKLE DOWN THEORY,if people have more money to spend, more people will spend more money on products and services than ONE greedy CEO.

, if they made $15 dollars an hour, we’d have to pay their tax, pay their health care, and drugs. I wouldn’t make$400,000 a year printing food stamp, I’d have to get by on $299,999.99 (taxes you know). It wouldn’t be fair to us white folk. maybe $ 25.00 an hour mite be better.
But hamburgers would cost $ 15 dollars.
They do already in some places, but if you want to sell hamburgers by the dozens, you would just cut down on your profit a little.
MAYBE if those people on the bottom had more money to spend, they could BUY your JUNK and you’d still have a JOB !

Hey seniorbull, stop yelling, it is offensive.

The problem you are missing is that when jobs that require no experience, no education, no skill set, or whatever, are paying higher minimum wage, such as the current 6.55 per hour, then a domino effect takes place. First, employers will cut jobs, raising the level of unemployment, and making it even harder to find a job with little requirements. Second, you will now have more employers sending whatever jobs they have that could be done by minimum wage earners overseas where people make 6 dollars a year to do that job. If, and this is a big if, employers cannot afford drop employees from their payroll, and they are unable to outsource, such farmers, restaurants, and Wal-Mart, they now have to raise the price of their goods in order to continue making a profit.

Like it or not, profit is why there are businesses.

Yes, people who make minimum wage are poor, but if we paid everyone a lot of money, no matter what job they have, why would anyone want to do the hard jobs? There is no incentive for minimum wage earners to better themselves. If you aren’t making enough, then you need look at your situation and do something to change it.

The government raising the minimum wage go 6.55 and eventually to, I believe it is supposed to be 7.25 in the next year or so, will not help people who make minimum, because the domino effect on this will be that the price of everything will go up, and they will still remain below the poverty level, if they even have a job.

Oh, one more thing, not only will the domino effect hit the minimum wage earner, but it will hit everyone in the wallet. Even those of us who are working for more than minimum are being hit, I have not had a raise this year due to the economy, and even when I did get a raise last, it was way less than the increase in the cost of living.

You don’t have to be an economist to know that raising the minimum wage results in higher costs for everyone. And frankly, if you hate those people make a profit by supplying you “junk”, then don’t buy their “junk” build your own.

YEA YEA YEA , I’ve heard your song and seen your dance before. Ho hum, same old same old. every time they raise the minimum wage. Why dont we just go to the good old days, when women and blacks and Mexicans were paid a lower minimum wage than whites ? Remember, you had the same argument then. Nothings changed except your wage. It keeps going up, while we make do with less. What’s offensive is your argument. You pay it in the end anyway(if you didn’t understand me the first time) It would be a lot cheaper to pay it up front and cut out the middle man. everyones taxes would go down by over 50%. Our taxes wouldn’t have to support half the country. You have been proved WRONG, time and time again. By every time the minimum wage has been raised. It has always been followed by growth.> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SicFn8rqPPE <
Thanks for your useless advice. But I do usually make, build, fix, grow, or what have you, my own stuff when ever possible.
    .
PS I believe you copied your augment from some republican talking point from the 50’s. I could have went down each of your points and tore them apart, but I’m lazy, and what’s the point. My people aren’t stupid, and your’s dont care.

Ray Kroc (McDonalds) and many like him spent millions of dollars bribing (pardon me, lobbying) congress not to raise the minimum wage. In the last ten years or so the bottom fifteen percent have lost ground an estimated 10-12 percent. And for what? So W.’s have more 1% of the population could boost the American Gini index. Switzerland is now the only wealthy country with greater income inequality than the US. Prosperity used to be a rising tide that lifted all boats but not any more. If things stay the way they are America will have a wealth distrubution pattern similar to Mexico’s within most of our lifetimes.

It never fails…if you increase the cost on businesses, especially the small businesses the money has to come from somewhere…either by higher prices, fewer employees…they’ll cut the cost somewhere.

Small business drives the majority of our economy and these “feel good” policies hurt them the most.

McDonald’s and like corporations hardly feel the blow most of the time. Some of the small businesses that are barely hanging on can easily be pushed over the edge by some of this nonsense.

Like the cap-and-tax-tax-tax some more legislation.

It’s better to have your employees and their family’s to be living out of their car in your parking lot, than to pay them. If they go under for paying minimum wage, they weren’t going to make it any way
It seems they made it when gas and fuel went though the roof……. Were talking Minimum Wage ! You talk like it’s $50 bucks an hour. Something that’s been in the waiting for 10 years. Isn’t it about time ?

Shoot if you are trying to live on min wage then you are a loser. Or worse yet, just what we need, if a teenager can get a job they will be over paid. But from what I seen 1st hand. Min wage goes up people lose jobs and hours. And for a bonus prices go up. And the poor pitiful poor get the shaft once again. What a great feel good plan.
Anyone want to talk about the hidden cost of Union wages that are tied to Min. wage? You see you can not have your union guys making min. so when it goes up the contract states their pay goes up by x% of that min wage hike.
What a great way to stimulate the prices and jobs…not.

I think it would be nice for a teen to support themselves. provided they work a 40 hour week. Why not. I was married at 19, had a wife and a baby to support. I worked on bulldozers, heavy equipment. I used to jack them up pulled the tracks off. drag the tracks with a Mobile crane over to 100,000 pound press take the tracks a part and put them back together, drag them back and put them back on. alone, by my self. had to use a cutting torch to get some of the bolts out. While other men got 10.50- 14.00 dollars an hour, because of my age they paid me minimum wage. This was in 1972. I had to quit driving my car because gas prices were too high, so I bicycled 15 miles to work in the Bakersfield’s heat every day..
I use to steal salami so i could have a lunch. >http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SicFn8rqPPE . BTW there is a 240 Billion dollar tax break for corporations and a 36 Billion tax break for Small Business. with this bill.

    harleyquinnGenius_badge said, 4 months ago

Well if you up the min wage they will not be working 40 hours a week. Part time and Temp work looks better and better for employers. Min wage jobs or bottom rung jobs should be for teens who have nothing in there background to warrant being paid anything else. If you pay teens more then they are worth then they will never stride to earn more.

Bottom line, the guy who supplies the job owns the job. You don’t like the terms find work elsewhere. Why must the government step in and dictate to those who take the risk how much they should pay someone else?
