Ideological: relating to or concerned with ideas .
Simpleton: a person lacking in common sense.

Well, I’ll give ya the ideological, because all of Asay’s cartoons deal with ideas.
But simpleton? Come on…now you’re just being a left/right basher.

The cartoon is based on the actions the current administration have taken.

The cartoonist is forgetting that General Motors begged the government to give them money, not the other way around, because it was either that or go out of business.

Now that the US taxpayer owns a lot of GM, almost every person in the country thinks its highway robbery for GM to then turn around and use the money to give million dollar bonuses to executives. If you want to make the case that US tax dollars should be used to reward executives who ran the company into the ground, go right ahead.

On the CEO front, do you really think the people who screwed up GM for years should be the ones to now benefit from a huge bailout? They had years to fix GMs problems and did nothing. And don’t try to argue GM couldn’t be viable because of the unions: Ford has the same union contracts as GM, and they’re doing just fine. Why is that? GM shareholders, which now include taxpayers, are demanding changes in management.

Finally, as for taking from bond holders and giving to unions, the bankruptcy of GM is being handled according to US law. If it weren’t, the bond holders would be able to easily appeal through courts stacked with Bush W. appointees.

So yes, I think “simpleton” does apply here.

The fact that Obama is pushing for improving mass transit is enough for me to be on his side of this issue…

Yep, that is just what we need; more HQ version of America: FREE MARKET works bestest, because it’s based on, um,personal profit and we can see just how patriotic large/multinational American corporations are by the way they help improve this nation with their profit. HQ, please give me your opinion on the temporary nationalization of the railroads and shipping ports in the US during WWII. Was FDR only into govnmt control? Wait. He was white and rich. I answered my own question.

michael, good reasoning, well said. And especially Asay saying the govt (Obama) is taking from shareholders and giving to unions. Not true. As you wrote, it’s being handled by existing law.

Some folks will blame Obama for things they would have applauded if prior presidents had done the same thing. Kind of like sociopath Limblahblah saying the rightwing nut fanatic that killed the guard (and vet) in the Holocaust Museum was a leftist.

Say the opposite of what is fact and some folks will believe it because they want to.
