Chuck Asay sifts the events of the day through his biblical worldview and tries to persuade readers to see things his way...that rights are given by a higher authority than the governments of men, that mankind is not the ultimate arbiter of truth and that our Constitutional Republic is worth protecting. Chuck believes ideas, not politicians rule the world. He tries to protect ideas which he thinks are good and attacks ideas he thinks bring harm.

ANandy get on you scooter and head for DC. We could use an individual with all the answers.

well done, scary reminder of what we are leaving the next generation
danielsangeo said, 8 months ago
Asay (or ANandy) doesn’t seem to know what the concept of “investment” is.

danielsangeo, pretty good point. Imagine an industrialist just sitting and waiting for the piggy bank to “somehow” fill up so he could build a new plant or purchase machinery.

So Innaney – you disagree with the deficit spending created by The Glorious and Infallible Saint Reagan?

Cool toon.
A coutry can’t spend itself out of debt, but spending can help to counter recession.

The idea is to invest in our country, infrastructure, health care, green energy, education. This creates jobs and opportunities in brand new industries.

This is the REAL Truth about “the Great Impostor” - Throw our hard earned money into a deep dark pit - called Washington, D.C.
danielsangeo said, 8 months ago
“danielsangeo does not know what invest means”
Actually, I do.
invest: to put money to use, by purchase or expenditure (spending), on something that offers appreciation in value.
Spending money on infrastructure, et al, offers substantial returns on that investment.
“dear frog it did not work for fdr”
Actually, yes, it did. Or are you one of those who think that the New Deal prolonged the Great Depression? If you are, then what is your evidence that it prolonged it?

WillBerry:
You think that the money just vanishes when it enters DC?
WillBerry said, 8 months ago
Dear Hunphries/Frog/DeadHeadZan - The Great Impostor is not talking about the dictionary definition “investment”, he’s referring to building the biggest government the world has ever seen (maybe since the Tower of Babel or the fall of the Roman Empire) with our hard earned money! The only jobs he’s creating are for more generations of do nothing bureaucrats and lawyers who do nothing more than bloat the government payrolls!

DanielsAngelo : YES!!! The reality is that the Velocity of Money (how many times it changes hands - a measure of economic vitality) is TWO to THREE TIMES HIGHER when in the Private Sector than if it goes into government spending - In other words, 1 out of every three dollars spent by the government is totally WASTED! Having served in the Coast Guard for 8 years and worked in banking as a financial executive (I left for far better pastures some years ago), I can GUARANTEE that, as the old Cajun cooking show host used to say!

DanielsAngelo - BTW FDR’s New Deal DID FAIL - 1) the NRA was thrown out as unconstitutional; 2) Many of the WPA projects were built with less than adequate materials and are falling apart of needing replacement much sooner than anyone expected; and 3) EMPLOYMENT did NOT recover until World War II began in Europe (1939, not 1941), with tremendous orders coming in for our idle industry capacity!!! The money that led that recovery BTW bankrupted England, France, Holland, and provided the reason we felt responsible for the Marshall Plan that rebuilt Europe after the War.
Sooky Rottweiler's ... said, 8 months ago
wbr; FDR spent. The war was there, so he spent on weapons.
danielsangeo said, 8 months ago
1) The NRA was only deemed unconstitutional because it tried to regulate INTRASTATE commerce. This, in and of itself, is not evidence of the New Deal failing.
2) The WPA works are failing, but not for the reason you think. Things don’t last forever and need constant work to keep them “up to snuff”.
3) It’s either the comment of a baldfaced liar of someone with extreme historical ignorance to claim that the New Deal prolonged the Depression. It rests on the claim that the recession of ‘37 and ‘38 was caused by the New Deal. It wasn’t. It was Roosevelt altering the New Deal to calm the cries of the conservatives. Roosevelt’s lapse in judgment for his listening to conservatives who caused the Great Depression is what caused the recession of 37-38.
Indeed, unemployment FELL since the Great Depression (37-38 notwithstanding) and the economy GREW every year of Roosevelt’s first two terms.
Get educated, Will. You’re embarassing yourself.

I disagree with WillBerry on one point…WPA projects are well-built as far as I know, and you can find buildings and projects from the era all over the St.Louis area…They’ve lasted a lot better than the budget breakers of the ‘80’s and current. But I would rather keep qualified private parties in business rather than ad-hoc government (on both sides) political-coalitions wallowing in government money.
