Chuck Asay sifts the events of the day through his biblical worldview and tries to persuade readers to see things his way...that rights are given by a higher authority than the governments of men, that mankind is not the ultimate arbiter of truth and that our Constitutional Republic is worth protecting. Chuck believes ideas, not politicians rule the world. He tries to protect ideas which he thinks are good and attacks ideas he thinks bring harm.

dumb and inaccurate … he’s not slapping a higher tax on donors, he’s placing some limits on itemized deductions for charitable contributions for wealthy … here, here, I say … that arrangement has been misused for a long time … loaning a painting to a museum and then being able to write off the a portion of the value of the painting on loan even though the wealthy owner gets it back …
it will disallow some of the flagrant misuse of the charitable deductions that tax attorneys/accountants come up with for their wealthy clients …. i remember reading that when Jackie Kennedy Onassis died, her children paid no inheritance taxes whatsoever on her multi-million dollar estate because of the use of charitable deductions … happened same time my grandmother died and we had to pay both federal and state (Okla) inheritance taxes … something’s not right there

This panel is spot on, wait until the Movers and shakers get the new tax bill, they will seat on their money and wait for this administration to crash…in the mean time, all of us working stiffs will be eating Spam.

Causalities of class warfare. What do you expect when you tell everyone making over 250000 we are going to punish you with taxes. And have dreams that no ceo should make over 1/2 mil?
Want something better?
FAIR TAX!

Oh be afraid, be very afraid. The big bad boogyman Obama is going to raise your marginal tax rate by 3%. That doesn’t even kick in until (and only on everything above) 250K. I’m having a hard time feeling very sorry for those facing this modest increase. You might recall that the top marginal rate during the Eisenhower admin was 91%. I think we all can agree upon how crippled our economy was during those years. And BTW, Jefferson himself in a letter to Madison (October 1787 I think), laid out his advocacy for a higher (graduated) tax burden on the wealthy. Danged commie wealth redistributor!

Isn’t the max “possible” going up 4.6% to 36.4%(approx). That Buffet may actually pay the same as his secretary doesn’t scare him, but it does all those who’d rather give MORE in political contributions for perks.

OK Goslim will take you up on that. A small businessman man earns 250K on his personal income. 3% of 250000 comes to $7500. To the Government will take it, spend it alone with trillion to save or create 3 mill jobs.
The small businessman takes that 7500 and hires a part time high school kid. To do who knows what.
Who has done a better job in helping our economy?

OK HQ – taxes 101:
If your $250K man hires the kid and that $7500 is a business expense… guess what… he’s not in the $250k tax bracket any more… problem solved.

HQ, why are you picking on oldlego? geeze! knock it off .
and here we go again: FAIR tax:
False Advertising by Irresponsible Republicans
I’m sure others could come up with even better idea for the acronym … go for it!!
whitenoise said, 8 months ago
HQ, if you are making over 250k as a “small business” owner then you are either extraordinarily successful or have a lousy accountant.
If you are in the former category then you gain more benefit than the average worker from the government supported programs these taxes will enable (like: healthcare, roads, schools, communications, rail, the list goes on) and should absorb more of the burden. If you are in the latter category then you are paying a stupid tax (a bit like buying a lottery ticket). Either way, I have no sympathy.

“I’m going to slap a higher tax on your BIG donors which will still be vastly smaller than the taxes in place during Reagan’s time, so that way, more money can come in to this kitchen while still allowing the donor to donate.”
I really wish Asay would let Obama finish his sentences.

Hey beife you so scared of them Repubs you are seeing things. The Fair Tax has nothing to do with Republicans. It came from a think tank. There have been both Dems and Rep support it. It is just the Huckabee just happen to be the most visible one running for president. and he is a Republican. Don’t just knock it debate it. bet you can not.
Picking on Oldgodad I am agreeing with him this nation is becoming a Obamination abomination.
white noise you obviously do not know what you are talking most small business can make over 25000. Or is turning a profit somehow evil to you? And letting the person who can grow our country deiced if he wants to hire someone or donate money a bad thing. Yes we have to pay taxes duh. But the government can not make wealth they can only take it away!

HQ – my point is that if business owners put money back into their businesses instead of siphoning off cash they can evade the taxes of which you speak. Tell me that $250K is too little to live off of. Tell me that.
Here in MN the head of UnitedHealthGroup makes $300M/yr. Part of what makes him “worth the money” is that he’s willing to deny your mother an MRI. If UHG put that $300M into helping people rather than paying some @sshole an outrageous sum of money then they would be living up to their potential.
Oh.. I forgot his God given right to a $45,000 umbrella stand. You’re right… I don’t get it.

2 things here if they did not have the taxes like under the FAIR TAX they would not have to play games with the money they MAKE. Plus If they have the money they can hire and GROW.

Who are you to say how much is to much for someone to make? envy much?

envy schmenvy… you gotta be kidding us. is there ANYONE out there doing ANYTHING worth $300 mil a year? Finding a cure for cancer, certainly. Inventing a renewable clean-energy technology, perhaps. Or even devising a cost-free method to convert raw sewage into delicious beer.
Any of these as-yet-not-acheived feats, maybe. Playing corporate shell games that result in the kind of mess we’re in today, not so much.
How much ‘hiring and growing’ is not happening due to excessive executive compensation? We’re always told by the corporate apologists that these guys ‘earn’ their bonuses and they’d take their ‘talent’ across the street if they didn’t get ‘em. How much of those $12 billion in bonuses just handed out on Wall Street for 08 did they earn in 08? I don’t know about you HQ, but my portfolio says not one thin dime.

Tell that to ben and jerry goslim and yes who are you to tell someone else how much they can make!
lalas said, 8 months ago
“Envy much?” God, you sound like such a 12 year old.
How is it right for a bunch of CEOs to vote for ungodly sums of money for each other while they’re laying off people to cut costs.
I don’t envy much because my d!ck is big enough that I don’t need to compensate for it with money.
