    They could change the name to the Rednecks and see who would start screaming.

    Ah, just give them each a quart of whiskey and they’ll leave!

    (And, yes that is a politically incorrect as they come)

    And just like all activists, no one asked the people directly involved what they thought, reason being that activists know what it is best for everyone.

    Actual Native Americans from the region have objected to the name. Why should those NOT of Native American descent force the name? “Tradition?” What? A tradition of racism?
    Get real. Lots of older teams have changed their names. Half the teams in Major League Baseball have changed their names. Washington can too.

    How about the D.C. Honkies?
    Or perhaps something that reflects the city more accurately, like the Washington Pork Barrels?

    People don’t name teams after something that they abhorr. Teams are named after what is admired.
    I don’t know of any teams named “The Low-Lifes”, “The Yellow Bellies”, “The Skunks”, or “The Chicken Hearts”!
    (Not that there’s anything wrong with being a low-life, yellow-belly, chicken-hearted skunk, mind you.)

    A lot of “redskin” tribes, weren’t all that red. I don’t think the owners ever intended the name a slur, but if you really want to see something interesting, check out the list of geographic place names in the country, especially the west, that USGS had to change in the last few decades!

    As to Columbus Day, if only the Caribe indians had possessed two M-16s to “greet” Columbus with a little less respect, and a lot more “attitude”!

    How about the Washington “chalk outlines”? Think of the cool logo on the helmet. Oh wait, they might be saving that one for the next Chicago franchise.

    “When I get a sunburn I’m a redskin. I don’t find the term offensive but I’m not a screaming liberal.”
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    .I agree with you; I don’t find the name offensive at all — and I’m a quiet liberal.
    What I DO find offensive is your calling liberals ‘screaming’ liberals. I might just call you a ‘screaming right-wing-nut-job.’ How does that feel?
