No real environmentalist ever thought ethanol was a solution to global warming.

The use of ethanol as fuel came from Agri-business lobbying congress to use ethanol to replace oil imports back when we got most of our oil from the middle east.

Ethanol is starving the horse to bring about the car.
You want to see the problem with algae bloom? Go a little south to the worlds largest man made lake Grand Lake St. Mary Ohio. You see they took out Natures filter Wet Lands to form this lake. Then when it came under the bloom they tried many things and nothing really worked. Till now. They are reclaiming land to make new wetlands.
I am a heretic in the GorBull warming Religion of the loony left.

“We have a Congress that won’t legislate, an infrastructure that’s collapsing, a climate bomb set to go off. We won’t solve the immigration crisis even as desperate children throw themselves in the Rio Grande. Income inequality threatens to make a great democracy into an oligarchy.” Tim Egan

But Obama told West Point we must be believers in the world to be leaders in the world. It is those evil R that are “deniers” And a denier can not solve the problem and be a leader in the world.
That is why I am a Heretic in the church of Gorbull Warming. My “cause” Wet lands and land and water use. Obama told us he would be the reason the seas would stop rising. That was why he must tax cap and trade the plunder. I said he is all wet and Erosion is a greater threat then the seas rising. And the trend for the global warming hockey stick stopped 18 years ago. get with it.

And to some, the environmental weenies take over of capitalism is more important then “saving the earth”

Then they should be against Ethanol and for Fracking.

As a classic car nut, and an Environmental Coordinator, with degrees in biology, the corn ethanol “solution” was the dumbest thing ever done since the 55 mph national speed limit on cars DESIGNED to be most efficient at between 60 and 70 mph on the highway. (lighter, better aero, and gearing and engine design like variable valve timing and cylinder selection).

My classic btw cannot run ethanol, or it destroys the carburetors, not just a matter of worse mileage.

However to the toon as well, eutrophic lakes and rivers are NOT good things, and our ag practices, along with climate change caused by OUR actions, are leading to more disasters, and if nothing is done, it will only get worse. Lethaly.

    .
So just a different method of poisoning our water, then?
    .
So many other ways we could power our vehicles, but we’re addicted to the ease of oil, and damn the consequences.

Ethanol uses twice the water and more oil then it was to replace.
Fracking on the other hand has been used for decades without that much trouble. It was not till the fake hit piece that falsely showed a water faucet being lit did people start thinking that Fracking was a cause of water pollution. Yes there are water concerns and management is always getting better and should be scrutinized. But compared to flat out water usage Ethanol is a waste of water. Corn wasted when used this way. It drives up cost of feed and food. The process to make it cost more to the environment then it does to just drill and frack it. In water use, time, other resources, fracking is better all around.

So you would starve the horse to bring about the car? Back in he old days the horse was the biggest polluter. The car brought about cleaner streets, better roads, cleaner more sanitized air. But now we have green weenies crying about the “waste” of the car. That we need to kill it off for our own good. That Obama is right in his war against carbon based power. Al Gory and his Sci Fi flick is the god to worship. Politician must do, for our own good.
I say bull, All of the above needs to happen! “ease of oil” will only happen when we become the 1# exporter and we can call the shots, not Russia, not the middle East.
“so many ways” really? there is nothing out there right now that carries more bang for the buck then carbon based fuel. If you find one that does, then I say great! market it and make your billion! I am all for “alternative energy” but you lose sight of that when you neglect and demonize what we have right now! We here in the USA have enough Carbon based fuel to run the world for the next 100 years! And while we do that, that is when we work out and develop the next “car” that will replace our “horse”
