The Bush tax cuts have been made permanent for those making below $400k, so this toon is BS.

    Bok has this 100% correct!
First, the Democrats conned the GOP into voting to pass TAX HIKES on “the rich” but as Dems celebrated, Obama and Democrats in congress promised TAX HIKES to lower tiers of taxpayers!
    -
the Democrat-passed Obamacare and other legislation is already raising taxes BIG TIME! Much of the increased cost for medical devices and treatment will TRICKLE DOWN to patients and insurance companies.
    -
Nothing done by the US Congress is “permanent”….

FOUR LOUSY PERCENT ON THE "RICH’ isn’t hardly a back-breaking attack, get real! (And “permanent” in Congress IS a bit of a joke, agree with your there dt.)

…But I did not care because I am not rich.
Next they came for those making $400K, but I did not care because I do not make $400K.
Next they came for those making $250K, but I did not care because I do not make $250K.
And when they finally came for me, there was no one left to care.

Lest we forget…this alludes to the story told to little children that concludes "…and then, they came for me " at which point there was no one to defend yourself because you never stood up for anyone else.

The red hat thing, is that supposed to link to the French revolution? Or is it a belated reference to the Grinch? And “First they came for the rich”, that’s a modified quote from Dietrich Bonhoeffer about the Nazis, ain’t it? A bit tasteless to compare 4% higher taxes for “The Rich” with the terrible fate of the Jews during the Holocaust…

Par for the course with Bok.

The analogy itself is offensive, equating the holocaust and losing ones life with requiring the wealthiest individuals to pay a slightly higher tax rate. Are there no intelligent cartoonists on the Right?

Sorry. I didn’t mean to repeat what you’d said. I posted before reading all of the comments.

When ObamaCare fully kicks in everyone- including those earning less than $50,000 will have to pay.

If you totally confiscated all the wealth of the upper 1%, not just the 75% tax the liberals here fantasize, it still wouldn’t pay even one year’s 3-4 Trillion dollar budget. That money must come from the middle class paid by our grandchildren. Do the math.

Man, your arguments can’t get past 2008, can they? No one is confiscating anything. Name a law or provision that does. Obama wants the rich to pay a higher tax rate, not turn in everything that they worked for. Currently the rich pay a tax rate of 17% on their income. Everyone else pays 35%. How’s increasing their tax rate unfair to the rich?

Your point is not relevant to this toon, which uses an inappropriate and offensive metaphor to suggest the wealthy are being “killed” by the higher taxes.

But even if we take your numbers at face value, they’re not as dire as you suggest. In a country of 300,000,000 people a budget of $4 trillion would require, $13,333.33 from each person. We can argue about whether the budget should be that large, but it is fundable using a progressive tax system without putting anyone to fiscal "death.

    @Craig Linder

So you are content with every family of 4 in this country owing $53,000 a year in taxes? Since 98% of the population cannot pay that just where do you think the money is coming from?
BTW, as is typical “legendary” above has his facts wrong. The “rich” pay a tax rate of 35% on their income. That is after they have already paid 35% corporate tax. So convenient to forget about that. Capital gains taxes and dividends were lower, not any more. See Al Gore.

Like I said, we can argue about whether a $4 trillion budget is desirable, but it is possible to fund it using a progressive tax system without fiscally killing anyone. The median tax bill per family would be vastly different and lower than the mean bill due to the strong skew in incomes.
