   The French don’t care about having a mistress. When Mitterand died, his wife and his mistress held hands at his funeral.

   I wouldn’t say they don’t care, it’s more they don’t mix gossip and serious news. From what I heard, Sarkozy’s divorce and his affair with Bruni were commented often enough, it just didn’t impact his political situation much.

   Maybe if Sanford held office in a country where he didn’t have to act sanctimonious and pure, and could have a mistress as an open secret, he wouldn’t have vanished and abandoned his responsibilities for five days.

   I bet Mitterand wasted a lot less time and taxpayer money covering up his affairs than Sanford.
