Chip Bok is just messing with minds. NASA only uses metric, always has.The original captured V2s were metric

Guess what – metric IS our official national standard, at least for scientists. Who knew? Funny how liters have become readily accepted – probably because they are “about a quart.”
Corosive Frog said, 6 months ago
Up here, the government has the metric system but many older people (like my parents) have trouble with the metrics. That’s why you often have the imperial measurments just beside the metric ones. Metrics are more accurate in some domains than others. For instance, most people represent weather temperatures in celsius while most people read cooking temperatures in farenheit.

It’s too late for the US! We’ll never figure out how to use 10s instead of 12, 36, 1760, 5280, 1/4, 13/32…

I taught the metric system to American oil workers overseas. I found that they disliked the system because Frenchmen invented it.
dtroutma said, 6 months ago
Could have been Wentworth! With Lucas electicals the British would have ended the mission some time ago!
motivemagus said, 6 months ago
akibono – tell them that one of the first people to promote a metric system (not quite the same one) was Thomas Jefferson!

motivemagus - That may soothe their hurt feelings a little. But these good old boys from the Lone Star state can hold a grudge sometimes.

If the those hold outs will drive on the right side of the road, then we can and should go metric. It’s not really that hard and doesn’t cause accidents.
jvherrin said, 6 months ago
You would think that in a free country the will of the majority would count for something and say to hell with metric (especially since it was invented by a frenchman).
motivemagus said, 6 months ago
jvherrin - didn’t read my comment five above yours, eh? Thomas Jefferson was one of the first promoters of the metric system. It’s as American as apple pie. I think the French followed us! Why are we laboring under the burden of the “English system” of weights and measures??

… Russian parts, American parts, they’re all made in CHINA …

satipera: Great company we keep.
fennec said, 6 months ago
Y’know, jvh, if we did metric maybe our kids wouldn’t score so badly on the math. They’d have a chance to understand orders of magnitude, for instance.

dtroutma;
Q: Why do the English drink their beer warm?
A; Because Lucas makes refrigerators, too.
The above joke does not reflect the opinion of anyone reading this comic. Please don’t sue me!
dtroutma said, 6 months ago
Olfart- Lucas= “prince of darkness”.
