Interesting! I had never heard of this dish, and once I had saved it to try I did an online search to learn a little history and alternative recipes. Wow! There are probably as many variations of this as there are grandmothers to make them, and they all sound yummy! Thanks for introducing me to this Canadian tradition ;-)

There’s one thing missing: ketchup on the side. I have it on good authority (from people who grew up eating it) that even people who don’t like ketchup us it on this. Having tried it, I can see why: it tends to be dry, and the ketchup both moistens it and brings out the flavor.
