Boehner and Cantor have a leg up on the middle class, but so does my dog on fire hydrants.

God save the USA. With the politicians in Washington D.C. and the tone of some of the comments here, He’s the only one who can and I think He will let us ruin ourselves.

And the payroll tax dispute…what a scam…. it’s like an average of 50 bucks a month for me. I’ll pay it just to keep from funding it with social security cut backs.
The democrats want to extend it for two months …. yeah that helps …. and the Republicans want to go ahead and do it for the next year. Which one uses common sense? Oh go on and tell me about all the terrible things in the republican bill which was already passed by the house. Like the oil pipeline being approved within 60 days. More jobs with that but democrats are afraid to add to the 600K miles of pipeline we already have operating in the country. It’s all a LIE and a way to manipulate the masses (that’s you and me) with fear and trepidation.

@Howie: You and your conservative buddies are “Drill, baby, drill..” advocates. Don’t you ever think about globalization? It’s all a world market. Oil drilled here or in the tar sands of Canada does not stay here, it goes onto the world market. Why do you think that the proposed pipeline goes to a gulf port? So it can be shipped through the Panama Canal and sold to Asian countries. The first part of this pipeline has already had three major spills, so an environmental review is definitely needed. The Ogalalla Aquifer is already in trouble from overuse. If it is contaminated, it will screw agriculture in Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Colorado, Texas, and even part of New Mexico. I’m sure that the oil and pipeline companies will voluntarily regulate themselves. Yeah, right. We don’t need no stinking EPA.

@eepatt: You’re the idiot. The pipeline route has been modified and can be modified again if necessary. The oil will go to US refineries and will be refined into gas and then sold. Yes, that’s right sold. Some to US companies, some to overseas companies. Net result is we have more fuel. No, it will not lower prices because we have an over abundance of big business in the political arena. Yes, I agree that big business should not be there. BUT, the bottom line is we need jobs and this will supply some. Yes we need to explore and drill for more oil, but we ALSO need to explore and develop the NEXT generation of energy supply, such as but not limited to solar, wind and nuclear. If you want to keep people at home, out of work, then you support this do nothing bunch of people in congress on BOTH sides. Go ahead. Like I started off with YOU are the idiot. Get over yourself. We can not afford to continue on the course we are on now if we hope to progress into the future as anything other than a vassal state.

@Bruce…: You say that we cannot keep on the course we are on, but you want to approve a pipeline without environmental review? Sounds like the same old crap to me. If we want jobs in this country and a future for our kids, you are correct that we must focus on new energy. Only a little conservation NOW would save a lot of worry in the future. Jimmy Carter was right about that. reagan and his buddies were stone cold wrong about conservation of energy. When you call people an idiot, you should probably not follow up with a statement in which you contradict yourself.
