It just occurred to me: Monsieur Smokey is the Hobbes to Mona’s Calvin. (I know, I know,…duh!)
But no other human ever entered into the world of the living Hobbes. We shall have to see if Smokey remains alive only for Mona.

I forget the name of the female bunny that M. Smokey sometimes talks to. She seems to be animate only when M. Smokey is around, and I don’t think Mona’s ever interacted with her. If Smokey’s sentience is Mona’s delusion, is the other bunny’s sentience Smokey’s delusion?

razorback2824 got it in one. GEE1A got it in three!
pschearer, I think dmarkowski called it. Of course now M. Smokey may only talk to Pierre for a while, except perhaps to deny trashing the apartment.
fritzoid, I think you are right. Wouldn’t it be a hoot to have M. Smokey caught talking to her, like someone talking to a ghost only they can see? And what if Pierre was the only one who knew about that? Mona could think he’d flipped…the possibilities here are truly worthy of Rod Serling!

There was an episode of Calvin and Hobbes where Susie invited the boys to a tea and cookie party with her and her stuffed rabbit, Mr. Bun.
As Calvin and Hobbes are walking away after having eaten all the cookies, Hobbes says something like “Mr. Bun wasn’t very talkative. Has he been ill?”
