I told him when I was 16, I did not want his newspaper and other businesses. There was a great hurt on my father’s face. The oldest son is supposed take over. But I am not you, I told him. I can’t do it like you. He kept trying to control my destiny. I could have avoided Vietnam and went to Washington DC. But why should I be different than all those other guys.I married the woman I loved, but at a price. I had to support a wife and two children. I left the Navy career. I got an accounting degree and was bored stiff from the work. I did not because a photo-journalist. I did not work the Great American Novel.But I had Love. We raised two beautiful people. I hope to get to grow old with a woman who loved me for 40 years. What more could a human being asked for.
