Newlyweds Cathy and Irving navigate the treacherous waters of couple-hood. From pampered pets to prying parents, they’ve got a lot to learn! Wedding or not, it’s still all about Cathy - she personifies the young career woman and her typical daily obstacles. Ice cream, panic attacks, stress and love are all in a day’s work. We read, we identify, we laugh. Who could ask for more?
Cathy is the Everywoman. She deals with diets, self-esteem, in-laws, and letting her husband know that she is the boss. Everyone can identify with her shopping, bills, taxes, planning for the future and coping with her husband’s incessant computer golf games. Whether you are a newlywed, single, or have been married for decades, all will enjoy the daily predicaments of Cathy and Irving.

Wow, one whole week on the cabbage diet. How are you up and walking?

This reminds me of the claim recently that the rice in one cut-up roll of sushi is the carb equivalent of 3 slices of bread. So if you eat 2 sushi rolls, it’s like eating 3 sandwiches. Ouch!
Have a great Friday, Cathy friends!

Is that Cathy’s unborn baby commenting in the last panel?

Not unless she was pregnant for eight years — and got pregnant three years before she married Irving. This strip is from 2002, remember? (Yes, I saw the wink, but really!)

Oh, great! Now all I can think about is how much I want a nice juicy piece of PIE right now . . . apple, cherry, blueberry, blackberry . . . it doesn’t matter . . . I JUST WANT A PIECE OF PIE!!!!! {sigh} Okay. Sorry about that. I think I’m better now. I know Cathy’s pain. Even though mine is a whole lot better than eating cabbage soup for every meal, it’s still really tough being on a diet when there’s delicious food (not to mention desserts!) all around you and you can’t have any of it — not if you really want to lose weight, that is! Saying “NO” is just so darned hard to do sometimes!!!!!

If she’s been eating nothing but cabbage soup for a week, I’d give her a couple days to detox before sharing airspace with her.

@GretchensMom
You know that yesterday was Pi Day, right? (3.14 – get it? March 14? LOL) And a lot of people celebrated by eating pie. So, even if you’re a day or two late, you can still have some pie and be justified!
