Newlyweds Cathy and Irving navigate the treacherous waters of couple-hood. From pampered pets to prying parents, they’ve got a lot to learn! Wedding or not, it’s still all about Cathy - she personifies the young career woman and her typical daily obstacles. Ice cream, panic attacks, stress and love are all in a day’s work. We read, we identify, we laugh. Who could ask for more?
Cathy is the Everywoman. She deals with diets, self-esteem, in-laws, and letting her husband know that she is the boss. Everyone can identify with her shopping, bills, taxes, planning for the future and coping with her husband’s incessant computer golf games. Whether you are a newlywed, single, or have been married for decades, all will enjoy the daily predicaments of Cathy and Irving.

Now we know what the problem is with the economy…no more Cathy to boost it.

If this strip first ran in 2001, then Dubya hadn’t the time to ruin the economy yet.

We could use a little of this now. Not too much for excess, just enough to stimulate the economy. And buy North American or European if you can (better quality), or support the small businesses (I like Etsy too!).
Good morning, Grimma and Susan! I just got my shopping done. Mostly stuff for me, but at great prices. I will shop online for others later.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving (if you celebrated) with family and friends and lots of food!
@ Aaron and Billy – Thinking of you, as always…
@ Molly – Thanks for your note yesterday! I know you’re busy, but we’re always happy to hear from you! Hope things ease up for you soon! Hugs!
@ lindz.coop & kittycatpawsare – Thanks from all of us here! Hugs to you both!

Note the date. This was at the end of the Greenspan bubble.

I know I could use a boost.
Hello all, hope your Thanksgivings were nice.

I can never understand how anybody has enough money to see shopping as a hobby! But – “vive la difference”, I suppose.
I shall save my giving of thanks for when Aaron and Billy (and of course LMB) finally return, safe and sound. Until then, this is a rather quiet and sad place. Of course, it’s those desserts that we really miss so much . . . But come back soon, please, absent friends.

Hi Cathyites!! I did a survey at the mall on the day after Christmas that year — just asking folks why they were at the mall. Nobody said a word about the economy — they were all looking for bargains, exchanging “wrong” gifts, and one guy was just giving his wife some space. Seems nobody was quite as neurotic yet about the “economy” as we are now hearing we should be 24/7.

… Orrrr, they could’ve said they were going shopping.
But, then, that wouldn’t have been nearly as [eye-roll]-inducing, would it?
