    Women should pay their own way all the time, and men should not expect anything more than an enjoyable eveing unless the woman clearly wants more.

    The edict rules are as follows:
    Who ever asks, pays. If the man asks, he pays and if the woman asks, she pays. Man or woman, if you ask someone for their company, you invited them. Therefore you should pay. If this is not possible, it should be stated up front.
    BTW kids, if a woman gives a guy a hard time or makes him feel bad about his circumstances, she isn’t the kind of woman you want anyway. She is the kind of woman who will make you nothing but miserable.

    On another note, I think we should stop trying to impress each other sooo very much. It’s too dang hard to get to who a person really is without the facade. IMHO

    My girlfriends have cobwebs when they open their wallets, they never offer and I’m too stupid to ask.

    The practice of “the man pays” goes back to proving that one was a good provider was an important trait for a future husband

    With your wit and intellect, I don’t think you have to try very hard to impress. As far as Gocom is concerned, we’ve all had that ‘We are not amused dude’ moments. :-)

    The complaint that “a lot of industries still won’t heir women for the exact same job” is true but there is a reason. I worked a unionized Nuclear power plant that hired women for Operator, Mechanic, and Electronic technician positions. The women received the same hourly rate, only they did not due the same work. If a job involved strength requirements, dirty work, or radiation exposure (when the women was of child bearing age and not on birth control) the women never got those assignments. So obviously the women received the majority of the easy plum jobs, which of course created bad feeling in the troops. So if women want equal pay for equal work, they better DO equal work.

    So Bell is saying we men should stop trying to respect women, stop trying to impress them, treat them like we treat our buddies, and not like they’re anything special to us. Chivalry is dead. Way to hate on women.

    @Steven Young

    I’d be more impressed with that argument if it weren’t for two facts:
    1. too many men cease to treat their women with respect once they are sure of the relationship
    2. there are some men who think that buying a woman a meal means she has to put out later.

    I do no think either of these problems describe you. I’m guessing chivalry is the best part of your nature. Unfortunately, that isn’t true of most human beings.
