For a wonderful movie about a man wanting to retire young and work old, see “Holiday” (1938) with Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn; very funny.

My Dad never went on vacations. He and my Mom were going to travel once he retired. Then he had a heart attack and died at 49.

I have been told that it is a Jewish custom for newlyweds to take a year off work and spend it getting to know each other. I think your solution is even better!

Lamont has it right. It’s not like Social Security is going to be there when he retires anyway.

Varnes, after 2037, unless Congress makes a few changes which will keep it solvent even after 2037, SS will always be able to pay at least 70% of full payments. After about 20 years, when most of my generation has died, back to full solvency.

I retire in over 3 years at age 50. Don’t know how much travel I will be able to afford.
