HAR! I’ll have to put this on the machine right away!
The ones that creep me out are the ones with no voice, no heavy breathing (or otherwise) – just a cold silence. Robo-callers?

“The sound of a ringing telephone is associated in my mind with wishing heartily that Alexander Graham Bell had been run over by an ice wagon at the age of 4.” -H. L. Mencken

“What’s an ice wagon?” -Almost everyone.

That’s a nice wagon – they sell nice cream!
(There was an ice wagon still making deliveries to my neighborhood in 1953. I saw it!)

Ice Wagon digression; San Diego, about ‘51 or so, just before we got a fridge. Yes, the kids followed him around for chips in the summer.
Phone, in progress; Caller ID is a help, but not the fix. A blocking gadget with a secret password for friends isn’t quite it either. ‘Do Not Call’ list also not quite.
