I’m sick of the whole “personal choice” claptrap. Sure you have the choice to take what your employer offers or nothing. Hmmm…. which one should I take…..

My house was on fire so I called different fire stations……..socialism sucks!

He called 9-1-1? That service is paid for with tax money! How dare he! 8)

Which brings to mind: We do we still have this socialist police and firefighter-system?
Shouldn’t you be able to pick your security on your own? Maybe a machine gun is better for protecting your family?

Pure unadulterated ignorance. I’d be willing to bet that in most urban areas, as in the two areas I have homes in, there are PRIVATE ambulance services with which one can contract for service, as well as the local governmentally provided EMT service which is provided by means of local taxes. In addition, many localities contract out their ambulance service to a PRIVATE company. In many cases as well, you are required to contract with a service ahead of time or be charged for usage when and if the need arises. In addition, you are not REQUIRED to use the locality’s ambulance service nor police and fire services. In any case, the equating of locally provided services with federally mandated and provided health insurance is as much a red herring to the argument as arguing whether it is socialist or not. It has no bearing on the crux of the matter which is that it will simply become another overbearing government program which helps too few people at too high a cost. Then a couple decades down the road it will all need “fixing” once again at even greater cost.
And of course you CAN pick security on your own, any arguments to the contrary are inane and uninformed.
The most insidious part of Federally run health care is that the Federal Government will have access to your health records. If you think the Bush administration was tampering with the Constitution with its wire-tapping of foreign phone calls made by non-citizens, just wait until they can look into your health records and note that you have high blood pressure and emphysema. They’ll deduce that you are a smoker and will have to be punished for that, as well as not being afforded the best medical care because yours is a lost cause.

A mildly funny joke but only a straw-man argument against opposition to socialism. The real reason to oppose socialism is that socialism is opposed to freedom. Leave socialism to all the countries in the world who never really believed in freedom to begin with.

If you think health care is expensive now, wait until it is ‘free’.

Are pschearer and DeeBerg 13 having an empty-slogan competition or something?
I wish people would present an argument that’s more complex than “socialism is opposed to freedom.” What’s that even mean?
And saying it’s a “straw-man argument against opposition to SOCIALISM” is, ironically, a straw man argument. Because the cartoon is about opposition to health care reform, NOT opposition to socialism. And it’s saying opponents are tossing around the word “socialism” for things that aren’t actually socialist.
