OK, I think over the past year or so Darrin Bell has officially become my favorite cartoonist since Walt Kelly. Sometimes it’s 100% realistic and other times it’s 100% surreal and it moves back and forth making it look easy. He really takes the medium to new and surprising places. This is tragic and terrifying and moving and beautiful all at the same time. Holy cow.

Yes Marg, the little Michael that used to be, that I saw in 1969. (tears) “Not to die, but to be reborn”

Folks, I am delighted to hear that there are others that feel the same as I do about Darrin’s work!

He was a Prince
A Prince with no throne,
No kingdom to call his home,
He gave joy,
Lived through the pain.
Followed closely by defeat
Paying dearly for every gain.
He was a Prince,
No power to rule,
Leaping through life like an errant fool.
His gifts he squandered,
Through life he wandered,
Remembered for more evil than good,
His heart even he misunderstood,
He was a Prince,
A prince with no throne,
Now at peace,
The wanderer has found a home.
RIP Michael.

What a beautiful poem. Did you write it about Michael Jackson, or is it something famous that I’ve never read?
JonD17, I’m glad to hear that too. Darrin’s work is on a whole ‘nother level. I want some of whatever he’s smoking.

Little Michael. That’s the one I miss. But he was lost long ago.
