The only thing we have to fear…is people who tell us there is nothing to fear. “Trust me and I’ll make everything OK.”
If it quacks like a socialist, waddles like a socialist, and paddles like a socialist,…
Just because the goverment is taking major ownership stakes in huge companies in critical industries, that’s not socialist? Just because the White House and the entire alphabet soup of agencies are ramping up their command-and-control over more and more of the economy, that’s not socialist? Just because Obama is taking the biggest steps toward government take-over of health care since LBJ, that’s not socialist?
If you refuse to call a duck a duck, it’s still a duck.

Birth Certificate? Obama ain’t got no Birth Certificate. Obama don’t need no Birth Certificate. Obama don’t have to show you any stinking Birth Certificate.
It’s a new height in arrogance.
Team Obama and Obama’s allies in the liberal media are having a huge chuckle when it comes to the United States Constitution.
And apparently, the truth is a laughing matter as well.
When the question regarding Obama’s eligibility under Article 2, Section 1 of the Constitution was posed at a White House press conference, White House mouth-piece, Roberts Gibbs actually smirked derisively and issued two consecutive incredulous and false statements.
But to make matters worse, when Gibbs made his factually inaccurate assertions, members of the liberal elitist media… instead of pressing Gibbs on his outrageous statements… openly laughed.
Here’s what happened.
WorldNetDaily.com correspondent Lester Kinsolving posed the following question to Gibbs at a White House Press Conference:
“Thank you, thank you, very much. Just one question concerning what the president said in his speech on Thursday, and I quote, ‘I ran for president promising transparency, and I meant what I said. This is why, whenever possible, we will make information available to the American people so they can make informed judgments and hold us accountable.’ End of quote. Do you remember that statement?”
Gibbs interrupted Kinsolving and derisively asked: “Are you looking for the President’s birth certificate?”
When Kinsolving answered in the affirmative, Gibbs told his first lie: “It’s on the Internet, Lester.”
Kinsolving tried to give Gibbs’ the chance to amend his false assertion, and stated: “No, no, no - the long form listing his hospital and physician,” and members of the elitist liberal media could be heard laughing.
And Gibbs quickly interrupted with his second false statement: “I know there are apparently at least 400,000 people – (laughter again) – that continue to doubt the existence of and the certification by the state of Hawaii of the president’s birth there, but it’s on the Internet because we put it on the Internet….”
And before Gibbs could be pressed to explain his two totally inaccurate statements, he called an end to the press conference and slinked out of the room.

Man if you’re going to leave a comment that long start a bleeep blog.
But here’s what I don’t get…The anti-Obama people complain about his socialist agenda over bailing out failed capitalists that ran banks and other corporations into the ground through greed and irresponsible business practices. They complain about big government running the country and interfering with our lives, but have no problem with the government telling us who we can marry, what women can do with their own bodies, or that the government can listen in on our phone calls, hold people in a gulag without trial… I prefer a big government that keeps a few people in check over treating everyone like a potential criminal.

Doctor, your obvious moral and intellectual superiority as evidenced by your condescension causes us to surrender prostrate at your feet.
But do you ever actually say anything meaningful?

It should be obvious that there is no national health care problem that is not now being resolved by the existing health care industry, and therefore doesn’t need government intervention. (But I do kind of like LBJ’s socialist Medicare program because it is keeping my 92-year-old sharp-witted father alive and functioning.)
It should be obvious that there is no national finance problem, since the unrestrained market economy staffed by honest entrepreneurs will correct any temporary excursions, and therefore doesn’t need government intervention. It should be obvious that the American automotive industry will soon recover its world leadership under its proven management, and therefore doesn’t need government intervention.
President Obama, “TEAR DOWN THAT GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION!”.

This is the week that we get our full dose of health care “news” on ABC. The special which airs on Wednesday is a townhall format in which Barack Obama will answer “tough” questions from the audience as picked by ABC News.
Conservatives and other media critics have been up in arms ever since ABC News announced the format. Diane Sawyer, co-host of ABC’s “Good Morning America” recently went on the air to defend the program and deny that it was a glorified infomercial. She actually said she is proud of the program, because it’s important to have a debate on this serious issue. Note to Dianne… it might just be me, but I thought it takes two opposing sides to have a debate. Right?

Oh, and no, ownership stakes in companies is not socialism; taking over the companies completely is (see Mosadegh’s Iran, 1950s Guatemala, Venezuela, etc.). Neither is enforcing long-neglected regulations. President Obama has proven himself a centrist, if not right-of-center. The US is still yet to have its first genuine liberal in office since JFK and FDR.

JonD17: My concerns include reality, truth, freedom, justice, and happiness. If you don’t think those are meaningful, then what is? Do you find Doctortoon’s comments meaningful?
I recognize that ideas rule people’s lives, so I take ideas very seriously, whether true or false. My comment to Doctortoon was a response to the absence of any ideas in his post. Disagree with me all you want, but what I write about is meaningful, and if I’m wrong, prove it.

“Just because Obama is taking the biggest steps toward government take-over of health care since LBJ, that’s not socialist?”
I don’t think that’s the issue, I think the issue is “SO WHAT if it’s socialist?” Last I heard, plenty of countries that are doing better than us have a lot of socialist programs. WE have socialist programs like Medicare, and seniors love their Medicare. It works.
