My fansasy is having Chief Justice Roberts swearing in President Obama asking him “do you swear to protect and defend the Constitution” to which President Obama replies “I do. You, Alito, Thomas, and Scalia are under arrest”.

All I heard thru this last 2 whole years while the campain ran was that this, “Wasn’t about race”…this why do they keep running things like this where it IS all about race???

@pianoguy, the election wasn’t about race; it was about issues (as it should have been). But the inauguration of our first black president is still an important historical event, obviously.

Great strip, love the artwork in this one.

Its a historical event on the basis that this was the most uninformed election in the history of the USA. People voted on feelings this time….NOT on FACTS!

As opposed to the election of Bush? This was the guy people voted for because he was the one they would most like to have a beer with.

Why is this cartoon about race? I see a group of historical Americans helping swear in our 44th president. Would it be about race if a Kennedy is elected and JFK, RFK and JFK Jr. were drawn helping to swear him in? Also, 2000 and 2004 had many uninformed voters who voted on emotion. 2008 was no different.

Great concept! My only complaint is that I can’t make out all of the faces clearly (e.g. who is the woman behind Rosa Parks & to Booker T. Washington’s left?)

It’s (ugh) Condoleezza Rice. As much as I don’t like her ideas, opinions, actions, etc., she IS the first black woman to be that high up in the White House, so…

…I GUESS she belongs there. She and Powell, just by their presence, probably did a lot toward making certain voters comfortable with the idea of black people in the White House.
