A little sympathy should work, but maybe over done.

Mom, he is too young to know about power bills.

We had “friends” who would invite us over, I guess to watch us shiver. We’d put our coats and gloves back on, too. No theatrics—just a very, very cold house.

Actually, I don’t know when this strip was written, it could’ve been first.

Calvin is being overdramatic, his house is at 65 degrees Fahrenheit.

Huh! He thinks it’s cold in HIS house, he should get a load of the meat locker that is my parents’ house! And let’s just say it’s not because my mom is trying to save money…

She should make him run around or do star jumps, that would warm him up.

Does he complain when he’s outside making snow ghouls?

Calvin’s dad is equally hard to convince. Here is a strip from three years before today’s rerun:

I love his snow ghouls: the only good part of winter.

or, maybe the house was designed and built poorly for climate control. the upstairs is hot, the ground floor is cool, and the basement is icy cold. drafts all over, and maybe some mold too.
