I’m not in Thailand, but I can certainly get behind that sentiment. Have a good Wan Dek.

No, I just did a little quick reading up on Children’s Day in Thailand. I do have an interest in many cultures in the East, and in and around the Pacific. I lived in Hawaii from age 11 (almost 12) to 15. That was in the late sixties, though. I would like to someday visit Southeast Asia and Indonesia. (My guitars, coffee, and shoes were all made there!)

I think I once read somewhere that the word ’Thai" just means “people”, or “the people”. Is that true?

It’s common. In Welsh, “Pob yl Cym” means “people of the valley”. That’s the Welsh term for themselves. Cymri, “the valley” is their word for Wales. If you’d ever been there, you’d understand why—it’s very very mountainous.
