One foot before the cradle one foot before the grave.
Marg, your Easter eggs are beautiful. Where do you find them or have you made them yourself?
Serious thoughts to ponder. Very insightful for a young boy….or for that matter an old man.
It’s something to consider. Because it’s all too true.
You just can’t beat hard boiled eggs
Life is what I do when I’m not watching TV.
I am thankful for each moment and try to take best out of it, I enjoy the spring sun and rays which get wormer every day now and I like the blossoms and new leaves coming out with fresh green from the trees, Spring is a great season!
hehe. Shut up and read your Nieztche, Calvin…
What do we do with our dash?
and sometimes a crack appears across the pavement that you didn’t see coming …
Calvin is quite the philosopher this morning!
Marg are those pics of Faberge Eggs? They sure are beautiful.
MARG I even put a name tag before your place for Sunday. Bring lots of eggs. LOTS OF EGGS.
Perhaps Calvin will learn about life outside the box. Want to borrow my dusty black book? Sunday is the second day of year I get it out.
Break on through,
To the other side….
At your age, your happiness is irrelevant, Cavin Doing what Mom & Dad tell you without question is relevant. Only then you will have done something important.
Good Morning, Marg, Mike & ♠Lonewolf♠
That’s the most important question one needs to ask oneself…what did we do during this whole journey called life..did we live to our fullest? make the best out of it… get happiness in life…rest everything is a piece of bleeep when you cross the other side of the square…u r just a piece of dead meat…so stop worrying and start living NOW…….
The eggs keep getting better, Marg.
Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans.
You could keep pondering these questions until the twilight of life. Get on with it.
Marg, unbelievable egg!
Calvin poses some potent posits today, but is missing the point: every moment he spends pondering questions like those, he misses the significance of that moment. Everything is nothing and nothing is everything.
I think Bill fully poured himself into today’s strip.
Life is what happens while you’re waiting at the checkout.
The eggs of Marg are so beautiful, I’ll miss them after easter!
Death is just another part of Life…
interesting that there is sidewalk before AND after the one that represents life…
Not to decide, is to decide. Get off that square and make a difference.
“The unexamined life is not worth living.” - Socrates
I hope so.
Calvin you always have profound and deep thoughts.
Marge where do you get pictures of those colorful eggs. Very nice.
Move me on to any black square
Use me anytime you want.
Just remember that the goal
Is for us all to capture all we want.
Don’t surround yourself with yourself,
move on back two squares …
Life is what you experience before your mom hollers for you to come home.
Is That All There Is? - Peggy Lee
…or is the mere enormity of it all paralyzing us?
Alas, the eggs have been removed. Sic transit gloria mundi… .
Why were Marg’s Easter eggs removed from the comments? I went back to previous days’ cartoons as well, and they’re gone. How are colored eggs offensive in any way?
Web search pysanki (or some variation on that spelling) and prepare to have your mind blown. With various parts protected by wax, they are dyed the various colors. The eggs are raw, not boiled, and when finished, coated with varnish. The insides wither to a small ball. There is no smell, but they can keep indefinitely. It is a fantastic art form.
Perhaps has someone eaten the eggs! Ore taken them away for his easternest!
“interesting that there is sidewalk before AND after the one that represents life…”
I was thinking the same thing. Reincarnation perhaps?
Fill the unforgiving minute with 60 seconds worth of distance run - Kipling
Since people are quoting songs and musicians, I have one you may remember:
“No one knows what’s going on, It’s too much man, Let it all hang out. Let it all hang out.”
Do not stand in front of speeding trucks or trains ,that will help you get to the crack.
I cant believe I said that.
Some people live their entire lifetime and wonder if they ever made a difference to the world. Marines don’t have that problem. — Ronald Reagan
Why do trees live longer than people? Shouldn’t it be the other way around? Death makes no sense … no matter how philosophical or poetic you try to be.
Deep thoughts today, very worthy of his namesake.
Easter Rabbit has fetched the eggs, to bring them to the children!!
“…man is born but once to die, and then the judgement…”
Do you think it was about this time that Watterson decided he didn’t want to draw a daily strip for the rest of his life? That maybe he had better things to do? I wonder …
What about stepping sideways?
Time to start thinking outside the square, guys.
LIFES’ TRUTHS ARE EXPLAINED IF YOU THINK OUTSIDE THE SQUARE (OR BOX)
The best part is when two sidewalks cross.
Fear the next step & you’re going nowhere.
Until you get hit by a truck.
It reminds me of the song my grandparents loved from their day called, “The Hokey Pokey”. It sounded like a silly song and the dance was pretty silly but if you listen to the words it talks about the decisions of life and just making the best of it because that’s what it’s all about!
I wish HOBBES, the commenter, was available to give us his thoughts on this. I had the same idea as Droptma above as I read this. HOBBES could tell us.
The egg is back! It is my avatar of the day. GoComics still hasn’t fixed the avatars. From what I understand, it shouldn’t be that difficult.
Love that egg! My sister sent me a Happy Easter card so I sent her a Happy Easter e-mail using the picture of the egg. Thank you for posting it and
Crack kills, Calvin!!!!!
Meanwhile, where are his parents? Do they even know their 6 year old son isn’t inside the house where he ought to be but is outside in the dark instead? Do they even care???
@margueritem, nice egg. Of course, you are assuming that gocomics wants to fix the avatars…
Actually in retrospect I think the actual quote is “No one knows what it’s all about, it’s too much man, Let it all hang out” also famous for “made Galileo look like a boy scout, Let it all hang out” from sometime in the 60s I believe, nice song, forget who sang it.
Back to the comics, as an aside -
Step on a crack - (think Devo)
Nice huevos, Marg!
See, now THAT is why I absolutely love love LOVE Calvin & Hobbes! That, and the way Bill Watterson manages to capture the essence of childhood.
W6BXQ, John Thank you. I hope your sister enjoys the egg picture!
bmonk I’ve been a fool again…..
Very pretty, Marg!
The sidewalk block Calvin and Hobbes are on is their life. The other blocks are others’ lives.
@chovil. The Hombres
let’s not forget… “What is the next square like?” or even “Is there another square?”
Calvin’s version of 1Peter 1:24 “… “All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away,” But, there is also …
Ec 3:11 “… He (God) has put eternity in their (man’s) hearts,”
We’ll have an eternity to think about what we did with our little square. Check out Luke 9:23,24
paraphrase: “He is no fool who gives away what he cannot keep (his life) to gain what he cannot lose (eternal life).”
