Calvin is falling for Susie.
Yukoner said, 2 months ago
That’s a forward somersault with a full twist. Judges ought to give that at least a 8.9

Doesn’t Calvin get the short end of the stick playing Slushball with Hobbes ?

This is taking as long as a story line in Judge Parker!

It’s a very long fall!

@Calvin: You wish!
Susie is the first one came up in his mind right now, maybe Hobbes is the next?

Don’t worry, folks, he’ll be ‘safe’.

He’s falling to his death and all he can think of is the harm he’s done to someone who started out liking him.
Hm, maybe letting this immature little ENFP become a mat on the tarmac isn’t such a bad idea after all.

I used to have a reoccuring dream where I was taking a walk and came upon a tall stone wall on a high cliff. Without hesitation I’d step up on the wall to look over it but I’d lose my balance and fall for a long time. I’d wake crying and sweating and I guess yelling sometimes because my Mom would rush in to see if I was alright. I had this dream for many years and became scared of heights because of it. When I went to college it was like deja vu. They had a huge stone wall exactly the same as in my dream. It went around the school with a stone walkway on a huge hill or small mountain overlooking the town. One day I got up the nerve to climb up on the top of the wall to look down. The view was gorgeous and I overcame my fear of heights that day and never had the dream again!

Yukonner, I bet Calvin would get a 9.3.

Yukonner and Leonardeuler - you are both wrong, it all depends on the landing!

Calvin, you gotta think something else apart from smacking Susie at this stage of life. Whatever happened to Hobbes??

Not all , over halve , if the sudden stop does not kill you , you get to keep your score .
I hope this is not as sad as the Icarus fable .
Richard said, 2 months ago
It’s not a female, rather a pleasure, takes precedence, smacking susie upside the head, now there is a pleasure.
Puddleglum2 said, 2 months ago
Icarus flew too high in the sky. Ultimately, in the rarified air, he was rendered unconscious, plunged to the earth and died. Calvin passed out in Sunday’s strip but that’s another story. In this sequence, Calvin remains conscious, although not always aware (such as yesterday when his somersault distracted him). Calvin will survive unless the writer retired before Calvin reached the ground. In that case, we’d be left hanging in midair with Calvin.
Puddleglum2 said, 2 months ago
To wicky:
Calvin is only six years old. Although he is precocious in some ways, Calvin doesn’t yet realize that smacking a female on the lips is a much greater pleasure.
If you ‘(up)side’ with Calvin on this one, I’ll be inclined to call you wacky wicky.
watcha said, 2 months ago
Ronshua - yeah you right landing does not count all, but with Calvin’s arms all over the place I doubt that he is going to get much of a score. His legs are nice together in all the panels though :-)

Great story, Dino-1. What was the school? High above Cayuga’s waters at Cornell?
Puddleglum2 said, 2 months ago
By the way, yesterday Calvin said ” When you fall from two miles up in the sky, you look down, GASP, and suddenly wake up.” Well, Calvin looked down, GASPED, and then GASPED five more times (instead of waking up) as he fell out of sight in the final panel. Did he GASP five more times because his theory proved to be false? At least Calvin didn’t speak in the name of the Lord.
“When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken, but the prophet has spoken it presumptuously: you shall not be afraid of him.
Deuteronomy 18:22

Calvin will soon be meeting with St Peter, so, instead of thinking of all the bad things he’s done, he should be prepping his meeting with recounting all the good (any good?) things that he’s done. I guess that won’t take long.

with every little (and big) thing calvin has done, in his life passes before his eyes, this comic can go on for a v e r y long time

Deuteronomy on what to do with a “stubborn and rebellious son”:
“all the men of his town are to stone him to death”.
Deuteronomy 21:21
Perhaps not the best idea to apply Biblical verses to Calvin & Hobbes (or vice versa)?

Puddlegum: Icarus did not pass out from lack of air, he flew too close to the sun and the heat melted the wax his father had used to make the wings.

Regrets now Calvin for the slushball incident? Start flapping your arms .… . (Hobbs will catch you.)
whitecarabao said, 2 months ago
When I was about 5, I had a recurring dream about falling.
Rather like Calvin, I would fall seemingly forever. Then, instead of the expected Wiley Coyote WHAM! into a canyon bottom, I would wake up on the floor beside my bed.
The fall was real but was no more than a foot and a half (45 cm for our metric friends). My dream had expanded that short drop into miles.

whatcha– think you will agree , any airplane crash a pilot walks away from is a great landing . Likewise any landing from a height that you live through is great , you may not get all your points but some are due .
Puddleglum2 –Saucy1121–is right , and not the earth but in an expanse of water. Drowning in that expanse , his hart broken Poppa Daedalus named the water what it is called by today the Icarian Sea . A classic Son not heading sound Fatherly advice story .
Owlsly Whistlepig–Some how Hobbes is at fault here.

@Ronshua, I’ve been corrected on that definition of landings.
A good landing is one the pilot walks away from.
A great landing is one where the plane can still be used again.
