Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes has been a worldwide favorite since its introduction in 1985. The strip follows the richly imaginative adventures of Calvin and his trusty tiger, Hobbes. Whether a poignant look at serious family issues or a round of time-travel (with the aid of a well-labeled cardboard box), Calvin and Hobbes will astound and delight you.

If your pants fall off, you’ll die even sooner.

The moon comes out early this time of year, doesn’t it?
Calvin could die three times. 1) His pants fall off. 2) His fall to earth. 3) Susie seeing him pants-ed.

Maybe it’ll be a News helicopter like in Dr. Pepper’s ad, What’s the worst that could happen?

This is one of those examples that Mothers use to explain why you always need to have clean underwear.

You’re in trouble now Calvin.
Not that I really know, but I wonder if you’ve got your undercarriage to close to the centre of lift.

Keep the shirt over your head, and no one will know…
But then again,
I see London!
I see France!
I see Calvin’s underpants!

No you won’t Calvin. You won’t see a thing.

Mom gave bad advice. If they were clean when you put them on, they wouldn’t be now.

The underwear may have started out clean, but if it were me up there, I might have soiled them by now.

(background teletype noise) This just in, a kid and a balloon were spotted entering restricted airspace. Lets go to our on-the-spot reporter in Newschopper 9, take it away Brenda…

(teletype noise continues)….In a related story, yesterday the migratory flight patterns of waterfowl went mysteriously askew for the first time in history.

How can a discontinue comic strip get better? Today’s date is 8-20, not 7-7 as written in the strip.
Everything bad that happened which was out of the ordinary in this strip WAS merely a figment of Calvin’s imagination.
bleepingdeadalien said, 3 months ago
There’s nothing worse than being “pantsed” by a balloon…unless it’s by your girlfriend’s older bro while your chattin’ with her and her girlfriends, while in your gym shorts, lookin’ rather studly…which of course never happened to me.

Watch out for flying woodpeckers….
THEY are the ones wif pointed beaks.
Wildmustang1262 said, 3 months ago
No one will mention about Calvin wearing a G-thong. The strip looks more likely black and white. If color shows on his underpant that will be definitely underpant, not G-thong.

I thought Calvin had his lucky pair of rocket underpants…boy, would THEY be a great help, now, huh? lol

bald 716 said, 3 months ago
at least calvin was able to tie the balloon string to his pants and not just let go, the balloon might have gotten away
musicnut1986 said, 3 months ago
Wildmustang, I believe Calvin is sporting a pair of briefs, otherwise known as tightie-whities.
As an aside, have you ever wondered why a single piece of underwear is commonly referred to as a set of or a pair of undershorts?
thebigkittykat said, 3 months ago
Maybe Calvin can slip his arms through the leg holes in his pants and right himself again That way he can see the birds and newschoppers when they get there.
bandz said, 3 months ago
I guess because they’re usually worn under a pair of trousers. Or because they have a pair of leg openings – [like trousers have a pair of legs]. Undershorts would be difficult to put on, or to wear, without those openings.

The pair of pants probably goes back to the days when guys wore long tunics and maybe an underwrap. For cold weather you would add leg coverings and tie at the thigh. So you had a pair of them.
But then there is the origin of drawers (underwear type).,, did this refer to where they were kept or to the fact that one had to draw them up? English is so wonderful….

This is the episode where you finally learn Calvin’s last name:
Murphy!!

How do you know Calvin’s last name is Murphy? I never have recalled there ever being a time when his last name was said!

I wonder where he’ll be when the gas finally leaches out of the balloon.
Over the La Brea Tar Pits, maybe?
redsheri said, 3 months ago
I know how this sequence ends! Let’s just say that Calvin will eventually be “safe”! lol!
Cameloo said, 3 months ago
Are those Calvin Klein underpants?
lincolnhyde said, 3 months ago
Jillandscout - it’s a reference to “Murphy’s Law” - whatever can go wrong, will.
