Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes has been a worldwide favorite since its introduction in 1985. The strip follows the richly imaginative adventures of Calvin and his trusty tiger, Hobbes. Whether a poignant look at serious family issues or a round of time-travel (with the aid of a well-labeled cardboard box), Calvin and Hobbes will astound and delight you.

@Rakkav - I learned the pitch manuever from Burt Wolf’s travel show. Apparently they had special ‘windows’ in old castles through which they dumped hot pitch onto the enemies as part of the welcome center. Glad the pitch went past you, not on you. :)
I don’t speak or read Hebrew. I am only on session one of Rosetta stone. I can say useful things like ‘man swims’ ‘men eat”’ ‘boy drinks…’ etc. I’m going to Israel this fall - I’ll do fine at restaurants and high seas. Better yet on a dinner cruise.
Whatever is in parenthesis is way over my head, high and outside. Care to enlighten me? Just the letters please.
I see ‘maybe’ a bet kaf resch quf hey vav ‘, backwards left to right.

Why does this feel like a vision test?

Have you ever felt a cat’s tummy after he/she lies in the sun that way? Hobbes is making a parallel comment. I suppose it’s a bit hyperbolical, but it’s for effect.
Even Jesus sometimes used hyperbole.
Ex: It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. Matthew 19:24

I used to have a sweet little girl cat who would lie on her back in the sun with her legs all spraddled out - we used to call it her “Kitty porn” pose.

Puddleglum2 said, 3 months ago
Hobbes was just ‘fighting fire with fire’, so to speak, when he used hyperbole. Calvin had already said, “Look at you. All you do is lie in the sun.” We know differently, and so will Calvin in a few weeks when he comes home from school and gets greeted by Hobbes at the door.
Puddleglum2 said, 3 months ago
By the way, I have read that cats get 64 naps a day. (It’s no wonder they call a short nap ‘a cat nap’). I suppose one ‘z’ compared to a few ‘zzzz’ indicates a nap rather than a several hour sleep.
If this is a typical example of Calvin’s lack of consideration for Hobbes’ nap, Hobbes will need all his quota of naps.

I loved your story 4deer, but I do have to say I’m not too enthralled with deer. We’re motorcycle enthusiasts and 4 years ago my husband (who was on a trip to Sturgis with just the guys) hit a deer in rural Montana (we live in Victoria, BC Canada) and had to be air lifted to a major trauma center in Spokane WA. He’s fine now, but it was a long painful recovery. Since then I’ve seen deer in the neighbourhood 3 or 4 times and it makes me long for our old house where we had tons of bunnies, and a few snakes that our cat loved to haul into the house…..hmmm, maybe I don’t miss the old house so much after all! LOL

How come ‘how come’ is usually used instead of ‘why’?
Is ‘how come’ short for ‘How did it come to be this way’?

I always feel recharged after sitting in the sun. Especially after a long stretch of cloudy days. There must be some truth to it.

GretchensMom My in-laws live outside a tiny town in the middle of nowhere in Georgia called Carnesville.
I wouldn’t call Carnesville a tiny town. It’s got stop signs - even traffic lights - and what looks to be a two story court house. I spent my high school years in a small town the same size that Palin got her “executive experience” in. We had only two stop signs, no traffic lights, very few sidewalks, and the “court house” was the Judge’s living room! Carnesville is “big city” compared to that! ;-) It’s at least quadrupled in size since then but it still has no traffic lights.
Boy, this is a weird experience. I was curious to see if my town had street view and it does. Not only that but there’s a street view for the short dead-end street where I lived (I think the camera truck took a wrong turn!). I’m sitting here 3000 miles and 50 years removed reliving a different time and place! (Who says Calvin’s time machine doesn’t exist!) The house still looks the same. The tree that I avoided below the ski jump that I built is still there. The feedlot across the street where we built bicycle jumps… Memories… $20 of my paper route money for my first transistor radio that barely worked…
In case anybody is interested, here is a link to the street view of the house of my teens:
Even being a technologist, it still amazes me that we can sit in our houses and call up a satellite or street view of almost anyplace on earth! Yet some people say we got no benefit from the space program!
Anyway, GretchensMom, getting back to your in-law’s property I like the area outside of Carnesville with the proliferation of forests and open country. It looks very similar to where I lived before moving to the “big town” of Altamont. However, I don’t do heat very well.
Many years ago I spent a week in Atlanta in August and found out why the Governor and all the rich folk left for the summer: It was so hot and muggy that even inside the air-conditioned hotel I would get soaked in sweat just walking across the hotel lobby. So I guess I will have to pass. Too bad.

“Hpw come” seems to be something children use and outgrow. Maybe it’s a change from their toddler years when they ask a million “Why” questions about everything and get told not to ask “Why” so much.
As for solar powered bellies, I have one. Unfortunately, all it produces is gas. Burp!

I had a teacher who could not stand “How come?” When a student asked that, he replied “By car”, and that was the end of the discussion.

Hobbes is just doing his part to save the planet. He’s demonstrating a method of “Alternative Tiger Energy”, otherwise known as ATE. When Hobbes does this prior to a meal you could say that Hobbes ATE tuna.

@Rakkav:
No, what are the Hebrew letters as in *yud , mem, etc.”
I am studying the meanings of each letter, I don’t really care about the pronunciation. The type set font makes it hard to determine whatthe letters are, as many are so similar. In that sense, English is easy. I’m not looking for easy…. I’m doing a little turning over of the sod levels.

Thanks Ronshua, but I am looking for Rakkav’s name. I have a good book on the letters and meanings, just wanted to look thoroughly at the letters he typed. I can’t read them - they are illegible. Too small. Maybe he can type larger next time.
O well. maybe next week.
