Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes has been a worldwide favorite since its introduction in 1985. The strip follows the richly imaginative adventures of Calvin and his trusty tiger, Hobbes. Whether a poignant look at serious family issues or a round of time-travel (with the aid of a well-labeled cardboard box), Calvin and Hobbes will astound and delight you.

Dad’s eyes and fingers must be bad as mine. Anything past a foot away from my face is a blur of color without my glasses and my handwriting still looks a 3rd graders and im in college.
artybee said, 3 months ago
I’m many moons past college, and my handwriting still looks like Miss Kittle’s penmanship book, also in the 3rd grade. I put the “curse” in “cursive.” But who uses handwriting anymore???

Calvin, you know your dad, don’t you?

I know Calvin’s a brat, to say the least, but they need to show a little love….

why don’t doctors use shorthand?
sjoujke said, 3 months ago
It suddenly occured to me - if dad can’t see without his glasses, how will he be able to drive home? Assuming the battery’s not dead then I guess it’s moot.

good point yyy, l guess as muddled as it [their handwriting] is,you really can’t tell…

sjoujke, no worries, Mom can drive too. Remember the strip where she had road rage and Calvin encouraged her to swear?

Calvin had broken the glasses!

Maybe, just maybe, Dad has another pair of glasses in the car……….. Nah…that would be too easy.
Ivy0730 said, 3 months ago
Calvin, it’s time to flatter Dad a lil bit, cuz it’s YOU broke dad’s glasses!
prasrinivara said, 3 months ago
Ric & yyy (based on an erstwhile pastor), the doctor’s handwriting IS shorthand–to pharmacist for “I got my $50, you take yours now”.
BTW LX013–it wasn’t Calvin who placed all the dunked bag’s contents on top of the glasses (after retrieving them from water).
Also another question: is the “isle” that dad is claiming to be painting Calvin’s mum on the chaise (that would certainly explain Calvin’s “oh” in penultimate panel)?

Dad must’ve forgotten they’re on a vacation as a family so he really ought not to send Calvin away.

At home Calvin’s often amusing himself without the benefit of the parents’ presence - with nothing more than Hobbes to keep him company. So why is he going out of his way to annoy his parents when they want to be alone? It’s time for him to go off and play Spaceman Spiff and let the parent’s do their thing without ticking them off.

Interesting how some folks talk about a comic strip such as this one which hasn’t been new in over ten years like it is a current comic strip.
Today’s month and date is 8-7, not 6-24 as in the lower right hand corner of the last panel of the above strip.

We always took a hour or so everyday at camp for quiet time. Dad always brought a stack of paperback books to read, Mom would play the music on the radio while she read the newspaper and did the jumble and crossword puzzles. I would read a book or magazine or play with my playdough and sillyputty. Mom was an elementary school teacher and would substitute teach at my school. She also substituted for the art teacher, gym teacher, and librarian when needed. Mom had the best imagination. She made the best bulletin boards for school and would assist me in drawing for class reports. She could draw anything from scenery to people to animals. She had a steady hand and could draw the straightess lines and perfect circles. She would draw the coolest pictures while she was talking on the telephone. I used to swipe them after she got done talking and put them in my desk drawer otherwise she’d just wade them up and throw them away afterwards. She used to get inspiration that way for future projects. She’d make notes on a piece of paper after and either enter it in her lesson plans or put it in her, “suitcase of endless wonders”, downstairs. She had all her stencils, pictures she either drew or cut out of magazines, paints, colored pencils, chalk, construction paper, etc. in there.

Actually Calvin didn’t break the glasses. His dad is the one who threw the stuff on top of them! Oh, well. Always blame things on the kid!
