Try this for fun: Go outside at night when the stars are out. Lay on the grass and look straight up. Focus only on the stars in that direction. Hold onto the grass tight. Now think to yourself: “I’m looking DOWN!”
Thanks again tbree

Hey! That was MY line! :-)
Okay, here’s another thought. Do you realize that at one time every molecule in your body was hotter than the center of the Sun?! True, very true. Most of the matter of this planet came from a Supernova long, long ago.

I like it course Hobbes doesn’t run back alone to the tent. He snaps Calvin, he doesn’t leave Calvin allone and runs with him back to the tent. This is very attentive and nice from him! So acts a real friend, he is a real friend, bravo!

Not a squirrel – them’s daytime critters. Might be a raccoon. Or a possum. Or a skunk. Or … (many many possibilities)

tbree - hate to be “that guy” but I gotta correct you. While you are right that the matter on earth came from other places and was likely the result of an explosion (maybe a supernova, who knows, not really sure) the “molecules in your body” were not formed at that time, and many didn’t even exist as the MOLECULES they are currently until they formed inside your body from other ATOMS.
Futhermore, heat/temperature of something is a function of how actively the molecules of which it consists are moving and bumping into one another, therefore a molecule, in and of itself, is neither hot nor cold.

Hey, Hobbes is a tiger. He should be used to this. And with all the power he uses to attack Calvin when he gets home from school, nothing short of a rhinoceros should be able to stop him from protecting his little buddy.
But then again, they’re both scared of Monsters Under the Bed. :)
Welcome to the delightful inconsistency of Calvin’s imagination.

But ‘Molecules’ just sounds better than ‘Atoms’! :-) I suppose my literary license expired.
Anyway, elements heavier than iron have to be formed in a supernova. (That doesn’t mean elements between hydrogen and iron aren’t formed, they are. Those get distributed with everything else.)
And if you really look at the stars, no two are alike. So ‘If you seen one star, youve NOT seen them all!’

The moon is NOT full of cheese–it’s full of LEMs and flags and crashed satellites and stuff the astronauts left behind. It’s a giant salvage yard awaiting a crafty entrepreneur. Wanna buy some used space parts cheap? The expensive part is the delivery charge.

Probably a squirrel…
In 1970, I was camping at Sunset Beach on Monterey Bay. Early in the morning I kept hearing this heavy footed walking around, but in an odd way….
Friend of mine went camping with a group one time. One of the youngsters kept saying “Mr Smith” (not real name). “There’s a bear our there!” Mr Smith checked, used a flashlight from the tent but saw nothing. The Third time the boy said “Mr Smith, I’m telling you there’s a bear out there.” Well Mr Smith used the flashlight again and saw nothing but then noticed something from the corner of his eye. He moved the flashlight and realized, he had been shining it between the bears legs. The bear was after the food they had up in the tree but tell that to his racing heart.

I remember a business trip I was taking on a freighter sailing from Tortola B.V.I. ending in Grenada. Before I would retire for the evening I would hang out at the stern and gaze up at the stars. It was as if soeone had put pin holes in the dark curtain of the night.

i like the image jmworacle. i also like stargazing on a warm summer night, as long as i don’t need to make a sudden mosey to safety. i prefer a nice brisk amble around the block, myself.

l think it was Bunton who once noted… we are all true to our own individuality, our perspective is limited, like a pinhole in the curtain of night… two people can go though the same expieriece, yet have totally different perspectives as to just what went down…
ninmas said, 3 months ago
mosey?
RinaFarina said, 3 months ago
Hobbes’s tail looks like it was electrified.
yes, @jmworacle, I too like the image very much.
@somebodyshort, I do it a little differently. I lie down on the grass in the daytime, on a day when the air is very clean and clear, and the sky is full of white (preferably fluffy) clouds. Then I just watch the sky.
After a while I feel like I’m high up in the air and the clouds are below me. I start to feel like I’ll fall off the grass and down into the sky. Wonderful feeling!
If there’s a nice breeze, no matter how small, I can see the clouds slowly drifting.
Actually I haven’t done this in a long time. Hmmm… something good to do soon… while it’s still summer!
