Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes has been a worldwide favorite since its introduction in 1985. The strip follows the richly imaginative adventures of Calvin and his trusty tiger, Hobbes. Whether a poignant look at serious family issues or a round of time-travel (with the aid of a well-labeled cardboard box), Calvin and Hobbes will astound and delight you.

Good job of rethinking that plan….

Hobbes, since you have to live with Calvin, I thought you would actually find it too long.
Yukoner said, 4 months ago
Calvin again proves that, “Discretion is the better part of valour.”
p.s. Margueritem, you seem to have an endless supply of avitars.

I wonder how many have saved the third panel as a screensaver.

Rakkav, I’ve tried to break it out. I may have to go to the library and trace it.

What a perfect cartoon. The facial expressions from panel to panel are perfect. Ah, and who wouldn’t relish a soft grassy spot beneath the shade of a tree.
corpuskevin said, 4 months ago
I like how Calvin runs out of the edge of the panel. And he has a talent for hiding behind a tree. It’s drawing less to show more motion. Clever, clever, clever!

Mr. Tubbsbottl, as I live and breathe! Good to see you among us again, my dear sir.
Your comments are usually colorful enough in their natural state; however, you may also wish to play with, for example
five pound signs or
three asterisks fore & aft

Waterbomb, rethougt for gods sake!

Calvins face in the last panel!
MrSpock said, 4 months ago
I’m curious how Hobbes would retaliate. He has no visible water balloons of his own to fire back.
LX013 said, 4 months ago
Perhaps he will not retaliate.

@rakkav: I’d certainly be one of them…if it was available as a screensaver. =D

For those of you wishing to save just one panel…it’s easy! Right click and save the whole strip and then open it in PAINT (or another editing program). Crop the panel you want and then do a “save as” and you have both the strip and the panel. I have changed my avatar from the Jack Daniels logo to show how it’s done.

I think we have all speculated on what Calvin will grow to be. From the look in panel 3, I’d have to say mad scientist. Dr. Evil has nothing to worry about yet though - until Calvin stops listening to Hobbes, that is. Personally, after the bee incident, I would have let him have it.

Rethink plan - go for Suzie

I think the range of emotions calvin can expres through that rather large face of his..is exquisite !
check the last frame, you want to give him a ‘awww its alright cuddle’ only your not sure if that expression is one of sulking, or he is thinking on how to put the ‘Big Hurt’ on someone else

Simple.
Five of Hobbes’ six ends are pointy.

Poor Calvin. All that work and planning and he didn’t get to do it.
Melissa Tempke said, 4 months ago
I love Calvin’s face on the third panel. lol!!
Josh said, 4 months ago
I like how Watterson splits the six panel format into a lot more panels to give a better sense of movement.
Wildmustang1262 said, 4 months ago
I think Hobbes knows what Calvin is up to with that waterballoon bomb. Hobbes is clever to tell him about life that isn’t short enough, though. Calvin got stuck with that comment Hobbes makes.

One of the best strips out of the entire series. I bought the hardcover collection advertised on the right about a year ago, and it makes it all the more enjoyable.

If MJ were still with us I’m sure he would have been happy to have a water balloon fight with Calvin.

Well, Hobbs is a “living” cusinart, five claws on each paw, not to mention his dentition, so discretion might be the better part of valor.

Amazing how a stuffed tiger ALWAYS gets the better of Calvin. You’d think Calvin might use his imagination to win one or two bouts
ratlum said, 4 months ago
I wish Calvin had soaked Hobbes O the look on Hobbes face and some day Hobbes would foregive Calvin maybe ?

You can da*n well bet it would have looked like a sunday school party if Cal had tossed it at his mother.
Calvin & Hobbes has to be the best cartoon series ever, along with Shoe.

“If you value your life, don’t even think about it.” Hobbes’ subtlety, I love it.

Calvin is maturing. He “rethought” telling his mother he was only eating cookies for dinner in front of the TV and now he “rethinks” hitting Hobbes with the water bomb. Maybe he’ll turn out alright after all.

I still see the psychology of a child, with an imaginary friend, threatening him, then the imaginary friend threatens retaliation, and the child complies, but holds a grudge.
Lot’s of billable hours in THAT scenario.
lightartsteacher said, 4 months ago
Whats funny– is he is really just talking to himself. – ! Good imagination.

I do thank you for your kind assistance.
Mrs. Tubbsbottl and I have been away to England on sad business, but at last we are back, and all is much better.
Again, I do thank you.

Sorry to hear it was a sad thing that took you away; glad to hear things are getting better.
Had I any functioning braincells left, I’d be able to tell you the others who had also expressed their concern over your absence. Margueritem was one, I believe; perhaps she will recall the rest.

@ groversfather Thanks. It gets a little blurry but oh the fun this is going to be. I do a cut and paste to save comics that I have a use for and now I can add comments. I used an Andy Capp the other day where Andy wants to give Flo cleaning supplies for her birthday, for my friends birthday. My friend got jewelery. I have to work on her to want crystallized carbon.

I needed a good laugh this CH was funny. I hope to change my icon but not sure what to use. Thinking something cheerie. Still not sure how to download since I have not done this. After I learn I will feel silly for how easy.
Selma_F said, 4 months ago
When this strip first came out I thought it was very well done and wonderfully funny. I still think it’s very well done, but unfortunately the “as if life isn’t short enough” comment by Hobbes hit a little close to home. In the past seven days four of my cousins have died. The latest died yesterday and was less than a month old.
Tell those you care about that you love them. You never know.
