Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes has been a worldwide favorite since its introduction in 1985. The strip follows the richly imaginative adventures of Calvin and his trusty tiger, Hobbes. Whether a poignant look at serious family issues or a round of time-travel (with the aid of a well-labeled cardboard box), Calvin and Hobbes will astound and delight you.

Haven’t seen Hobbes pummel Calvin in a while. It had to happen sooner or later.

Tuna, grilled rare, with a cherry salsa served with morel risotto and a salad of wild greens, pine nuts, parmesan, red onion, with a sherry olive oil vinegar dressing. After all, Hobbes has class.

JonD17: It’s my very dry sense of humor.
I’ve been thinking about Fenugeek Tubbsbottl III myself lately and wondering where he is. He’s a funny, funny man.

Was that a shock of collision, or a shock of going through the sound barrier?
Look at Hobbes’ face. Stark raving mania, more terrifying than any anger.

Don’t worry, Calvin. I’m sure Hobbes will enjoy cleaning up all that tuna.

Sharks have a feeding frenzy when they smell blood. Hobbes’s instinct to attack is set off by the smell of tuna. Wild animals do not make good pets; they cannot control their instincts.

I have a cat like this, I can’t even open a can of corn without nearly getting clobbered!

@ejcapulet,
I have 3 big dogs that does the same. I usually end up on the floor. At least they don’t have the claws of cats or Master Hobbes.

Oh, dear Hobbes, thats fine! A full meal of tuna!

I knew someebody out there had to like tuna. I wouldn’t touch the stuff in my youth, and I still don’t. Salmon on the other hand is a different story. Fresh served in a number different recipes or canned served in a sandwhich. Deeelish!.

My cats have almost no reaction to the sound of a can opener.
Their food comes in cans with a pull top.
The do come running if I open a can of soup with the same kind of lid.
madampresiden12 said, 4 months ago
Poor Hobbes has not had an opportunity to attack like that since school is out and he doesn’t get to “greet” Calvin at the door. Add a little tuna to the mix and Voila, the look on Hobbes’ face.

@Doc- My cat comes running to the sound of:
The refridgerator door
a can opener
A pull-top can
A shake of his treat bag
Any time there’s food involved!
Hobbes-Meet Garfield, fellow tuna mate.

Hello I’m new. We have a cat and dog. Our dog is almost like Hobbes when comes to food. Our cat likes tuna water. Have a great weekend.

Seems all cats like tuna fish. But Hobbes didn’t have to be quite so enthusiastic about it.

My cats, aptly named Calvin and Hobbes, always come running to the sound of crinkly plastic bags: nachos, popcorn, cheesies … junk food addicts they are!

Hobbes is a stuffed animal who really can’t eat anything. And to top it all off, he is a gynophile (he likes adult women).

I have had a cat leap up to grab a bag of catnip from the natural foods store before–then the family cat would also come as soon as he heard the can opener too.

@BinaryWeiner:
I was referring to cleokaya’s recipe which appeared just above my comment. it sounded expensive - and gooood.
if Hobbes likes shark steaks as well as tuna, then he has expensive tastes, too (as well as good taste).
let me also add a “welcome” to kab2rb

cleokaya, what a delicious sounding meal. I have to agree w/ BC13 that grilled salmon would be even better. My indulgences w/ seafood are very rare however due to my wife’s hatred of anything resembling seafood.
Our two dogs seem to know when food is present, human or canine variety. It is pathetic to watch them laying there with their eyes rolling from side to side as they try to watch both of us to see if they will be offered a sample of what we are eating.
Their favorite treat is somethig called “Pupcorn”, a puffed cheese flavored dog shaped treat.

My cats also come running when they hear the can opener. They just assume that it is tuna that I am opening. Which, of course, I always give them some if it is tuna. They also like plastic shopping bags and any size box that they think that can get into for a good nap. My cats are indoor cats so once a week, I will bring in some grass for them. They come running for that also.
Oh, wait, we are suppose to be commenting on this strip. Way to go, Hobbs!! I react the same way about bacon.

I would have thought Hobbes to be a steak guy myself. Raw that is. Personally, I can think of a lot better kinds of fish than tuna.

“I knew somebody out there had to like tuna. I wouldn’t touch the stuff in my youth, and I still don’t.”
Interesting. In contrast, tuna is the only food I will touch (much less actually like) that could be called “seafood.” To me any crustaceans or mollusks fall in the category of “stuff other people eat despite its not particularly resembling food.”

If Pavlov had had my cats and an electric can opener or pull tab cat food, he wouldn’t have had to ring a bell. Try catnip, This Stinks 715, it makes my cats go NUTZ.

Wondering what tigers ate before canned tuna came along. Jellybeans?
SQUIDBREAKER said, 4 months ago
Cats are not to be compared with tigers, however both belong outside. We are not fans of cats which probably means lots of people will be hating us now.
The strip makes us think of REO Speedwagon: roll with the changes. ……
and that we need a new piano, be.cause ours won’t hold a tune.

swordfish is a better method of defense tha tuna’
It’s CFL season and we can’t help but think defense!

JonD17 said, 4 months ago
Wow, lotta fun comments already today. I intend to summarily respond to several of them later, but right now I want to throw this out;
“Sources say” (smirk) Tigers can not only hear the can opener, but can smell the tuna from distances of up to 75 miles. lol ……….. music in the background …”and the train kept a-rollin’ all night long”
whitecarabao said, 4 months ago
Hey, grazer! Jellybeans? Why, of course – at least tigers of the Hobbes variety.
The cats we had when I was a kid would come running when my mom started saute’ing onions and bell pepper in olive oil. The cats weren’t crazy about onions and bell pepper, but they knew that Mom would soon have ground beef (for the spaghetti sauce she was making). If they played “cute kitty,” they would always get some morsels.

I’m not so worried about the tuna-fixation. I’m wondering how Calvin will explain what happened to the can opener after he just got out of trouble with the binoculars!

Hey, don’t forget that Calvin “acquired” Hobbes by rigging a tiger trap with a tuna fish sandwich in the very first C&H cartoon. “Tigers will do ANYTHING for a tuna fish sandwich,” Calvin tells dad as he heads off to check the trap.
“We’re kind of stupid that way,” says Hobbes, hanging upside down from a rope in a tree happily munching on a sandwich.
