Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes has been a worldwide favorite since its introduction in 1985. The strip follows the richly imaginative adventures of Calvin and his trusty tiger, Hobbes. Whether a poignant look at serious family issues or a round of time-travel (with the aid of a well-labeled cardboard box), Calvin and Hobbes will astound and delight you.

At long last Calvin’s dad has come to his senses. Now he reminds me alot about my dad. So I think that I’ll dedicate this cartoon strip to him. God bless you dad, I love you

Calvin already tortured himself enough. Surely, Dad realized that too.
Calvin will be trying in 10 years? Ooh, that sent a chill up my spine.

Like my Dad. After a Japanese submarine fired 2 torpedoes that went under his landing craft, there weren’t many things that could rattle his cage.

This is sweet. Bumped my varsity car and tried to fix it behind my dad’s back. When he found out he could not understand why I would not come directly to him as he would really want to help me(he would obviously first be very angry :-) ) .

Ah yes, jhenjhen, thanks for the reminder: Calvin is precocious even at car-wrecking. :) Even more precocious than James T. Kirk was, apparently….However, Dad obviously was thinking Calvin would have a learner’s permit by then. :)
Paul M. (again), if you’re reading this, go back and reread my comments yesterday. I didn’t reveal ANYTHING then about today’s strip. I didn’t intend to. I never do.

By age 16, Calvin probably will be ready for Reform School.LOL

My daughter dented my car. “I swear that pole was not there when I looked behind me.”

In the next frame (not shown) “In the bigger scheme of things - you can pay me back for the binoculars over time…”

Dad certainly has a feel for the big picture. And he’s probably right about the car. One hopes he’s found inexpensive insurance by then.

Aww, what a nice father-son bonding scene we have here. Now all they need to do is give each other a big bear hug.

By the time Calvin gets to drive, cars will be made more cheaply and be even more expensive to repair. Sell the car and take the bus to work.
songwriterz said, 4 months ago
I used the ‘Share’ option to send this to my dad. He’s 70, I’m 45. Lots of truth in this cartoon. Lots.
Superfrog said, 4 months ago
A great lesson like that is worth at least a pair of binoculars.

Love the emotion in Calvin’s facial expressions, especially the quivering lips in the last panel. Never seen him quite so sympathetic, & neither has his Dad.

Calvin you’re lucky your dad is so understanding. I thought you’d at least get a blistered butt out of this.

“But Dad, I was in the passenger seat the whole time. I let Hobbes take a turn at the wheel.”
Stede_Bonnet said, 4 months ago
I’m with you Macushlalondra… oh to live in a sweet comic book world where Dad didn’t beat the tar out of you first and ask questions later… Though this did teach us to carefully consider consequences BEFORE action.
PinkPantherRulz said, 4 months ago
make sure you don’t let him drive a Mercedes or something along that kind of line…

When I was in high school I was hit from behind while driving my mothers car. It was the first brand new vehicle she had ever owned. She knows it wasn’t my fault, but I still hear about it.

ahh yes Dad, maintain the pragmatic point of view.
I see Calvin and Hobbes tooling around town in a “Royal Gold 66 GTO with Hobbes tail flyin out of the back window. Musicnut, can ya dig that? (maybe, with some Bob Seeger, “Turn the Page blasting on the 8 track)

i think what makes C&H so popular is the mixture of humor and real life, along with the storylines and the characterization, all from a 6 year old’s perspective

Yuppers. Dad and mom will still be dealing with Calvin’s old and ratty stuffed tiger when he’s a wild teenager.

That’s a scary thought. But then, he doesn’t have any friends now other than Hobbes. He may hang on to Hobbes a lot longer than others might hang on to their stuffed animals.

10 years nothing…..there was a strip where calvin gets in the car and puts it in gear and it rolls down the driveway across the road into a ditch .
