Hobbes deserves a dollar even if only because he remembers all the bases.

A secret base??? You mean Gitmo isn’t enough.

That would be area 51.

It must be that time a year again for Calvinball, our comics national pastime. LOL.

If that’s the way it was really played, I’d follow baseball a whole lot more.

Wow! this game takes allot of energy and stamina to play. Dang! I missed you guys. Oh! I’ve been here, I just haven’t felt like writing any comments lately that’s all.

Hobbes can keep a secret, but I bet Calvin can’t.

poor Calvin…it’s hard to win a game that way..LOL

Secret base? Very mysterious. I am interested, what you can find there!

Apparently Calvin was not aware of the “Calvin Rules” being applied as the game was being played out.

Aww chin up, Calvin. You nearly got there this time around. Try again, double or nothing?

Looks like Hobbes’ version is more interesting than the real thing.

I thought the rules in calvinball always change.

If you make up the rules as you go along, winning money should be easy. If poker were like that, I don’t think I’d ever win. Remember the Star Trek episode where Kirk taught the natives how to play Fizzbin?

So Calvin doesn’t realize that baseball in the real world isn’t played by “Hobbes” rules?

Calvin should have stopped at 7th base.

I love the last panel. Hobbes gently tapping the ball on Calvin’s head.

already the taint of steroids is suspected in calvinball….
secret base? hah! you mean a secret stash!
a twenty three base home run? Not possible for unjuiced players!

…..well it made just as much sense as the dusty pile of binocs blown away in the warm summer winds bit……
so leave me alone!

Wow! Calvin’s pretty good - I was unable to make it around any bases when I played.
pomy2191 said, 4 months ago
hahaha…calvin i don’t blame you for doing it out of order…i would do the same thing
hobbes knows how to earn a dollar :)
trying2keepup said, 4 months ago
I like the pay scale in Hobbes version, too!
$1 for an out, how much for scoring a run?
And best of all, nobody can afford steroids at these rates.

More fun to paly games when you make up the rules whcih everyone agrees on before starting the game

“Hobbes deserves a dollar even if only because he remembers all the bases.”
Who says he does?
Johanan Rakkav

This isn’t Calvinball, yet. Calvinball was invented later (apparently) when Calvin realized that since Hobbes was going to make up the rules as he went along anyway, Calvin might as well go along.
Of course Calvin won in the end because he got the results named Calvinball instead of Hobbesball. :)

I’m fairly certain Hobbes is cheating. And cheating takes some doing in a game where you make up the rules as you go along.
JonD17 said, 4 months ago
Panel 7, Hobbes at his absolute natural best!
” I can’t tell you, it’s a secret.” !!!

I agree with Rakkav. This is just pre-Calvinball. I must admit that I had hopes when I started reading…
Can you cheat at solitaire? Or is it just playing a different, but very similar, game?
