Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes has been a worldwide favorite since its introduction in 1985. The strip follows the richly imaginative adventures of Calvin and his trusty tiger, Hobbes. Whether a poignant look at serious family issues or a round of time-travel (with the aid of a well-labeled cardboard box), Calvin and Hobbes will astound and delight you.

I can’t wait to see what Calvin finds.Oh the suspense of it all, so exciting.
Wildmustang1262 said, 5 months ago
HUH! Calvin used his Daddy’s shaving brush (or shave brush?) to sweep the dirt off from something he found from the ground.

What did he think it would be - Indiana Jones?

Calvin is giving new meaning to the term “brush off”.

Get used to it Calvin, most jobs are mind numbing, except for teachers whose job it is to numb minds.

Archaeology: Can You Dig It?
Archaeology: 3 steps forward, 2,000 years back.
Archaeology: Where a minute is like a thousand years.
grazer said, 5 months ago
Good grief, shaving brushes haven’t been around for years. It’s probably more of a fossil than anything they’ll dig up.

I feel kind of out of place here. I’m so used to Margueritem being here when I log in. I actually miss her, I hope she’s o.k. I’m not used to being the first one to post on Calvin And Hobbes. Besides I like it when she sets the pace.

I think that is what my daughter do to my shaving kit each day
stormies said, 5 months ago
some how i don’t think he will ever shave with it again.

Ahh the things we did to our parents belongings when we were young!
I’d like to see Dad shave with it tommorow. You never know, the mild abrasive might be good for his skin!

ladywolf 17, don’t feel out of place here, this is a place to post comments about the comics and have a little fun with each other, that’s all.

Calvin and Hobbes is my favorite!
I just wish that some people wouldn’t try and take it over with their off-topic comments.
SQUIDBREAKER said, 5 months ago
@stay ontopic:
You are breaking your own rule by commenting on your wishes. It is off-topic of excavating. That’s OK, though.
………………………………………………………………………………………
Clearly, Calvin and Hobbes are not on a government funded research project. There are not 3 to 4 extra people standing around with yellow vests. Re: panel 3: I thought it wasn’t nice to throw digs at each other.
prasrinivara said, 5 months ago
Remember grazer, that these comics date from prior to 1995 (in this one either 1987 or 1988), although the shaving-brush was considered antiquated in North America by the time C&H had original run (I can remember shopping for double-edge blades to take to India in 1983–with some difficulty, some were found for the purpose, and they turned out to be export-quality India manufacture).
True green_engineer, the sand will be a top-quality exfoliant.
Leonardeuler said, 5 months ago
Today, they use modern instruments in palaeontology such as shaving brushes instead of the old-fashioned C14-method.
Superfrog said, 5 months ago
Well I still use shaving brushes (for shaving).
I’ve got 2.
One is about 40 years old and I use it for travelling.
About 20 years ago the kids bought me a new one, but I couldn’t bring myself to throw the old one out, so I use the new one just at home.
They get better with age. Shaving takes a little longer but that’s a good thing.
Calvin’s Dad will be pissed.

You’ll never believe what they dig up - and what they think they’ve dug up! What imagination!
Stede_Bonnet said, 5 months ago
Once again, Calvin has discovered one of life’s universal truths–Most of it is just prolonged periods of boredom punctuated by brief periods of intense panic. Learning to embrace tedium is one of the secrets of happiness.

Stay Ontopic - You really don’t understand how public forums like this work do you?
It is wise to avoid politics and religion, but otherwise anything goes.
It’s much more fun that way.

I know right nighthawks? One time I was walking with my guy friend and he saw a white rock. It was a bone and we rushed back to my house to ask my dad what it was. Turned out it was a cow bone. Pretty cool. I think I lost it or he stole it. I should ask some time. But I always forget.

That is what kept me from going into archeology, all that painstaking stuff with the tiny brushes. ;-)

He should come excavate in my back garden, I think a barn used to be there about 80 years ago. Iron scraps, old tobacco-spit pottery jug bits, green and purple glass bits, and even old marbles.

JFri and Cleo, please don’t mention inventory. I used to work for a fabric store and I HATED inventory week. I wanted to schedule my vacation for that time but they wouldn’t let me. Everyone was needed on the floor to do the counting or wait on customers. BORING
wolfbyte36 said, 5 months ago
Just got home in time to see that Calvin got his dad’s shaving brush. ther will be trouble ahead if dad finds out. (gulp)!

I’ve done (real) inventory and I’ve done (mock) archaeology. The tedium of either is (to me) overrated, although very real. ENFPs can find relief through doing such things. Calvin (an apparent ENFP-in-development) just hasn’t figured out how yet; he’s too busy avoiding work in principle in order to do so. :)
Even so, like Calvin I tend to file things in my workspace by the “archaeological method”. Everything is laid down in “tels”, according to their dates of deposition. ;)

Shaving brushes, you’ll soon see them
way down south in some museum.

Shaving brushes, you’ll soon see them
on the shelf in some museum.
These were old Burma Shave signs. It’s ironic that a set of Burma Shave signs are now in a museum, the Smithsonian.

Burma Shave!
We used to see signs like this (one sign per line) driving on the old highways. There were many verses, but this is the only one I remember.
