Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes has been a worldwide favorite since its introduction in 1985. The strip follows the richly imaginative adventures of Calvin and his trusty tiger, Hobbes. Whether a poignant look at serious family issues or a round of time-travel (with the aid of a well-labeled cardboard box), Calvin and Hobbes will astound and delight you.

And to think …I used to do stupid stunts like this… Let me tell you it may be fun and exciting at first because of the adrenaline rush you feel … but in the end if you crash and burn and get hurt you’ll be paying the price in the future as you get older.

Somehow it seems to be more than just a hill. And I would have thought Hobbes would have jumped off at the start. I seem to remember him doing that with a sled ride of doom.

Calvin has a point about things going by faster and faster, especially as one gets older.

This is almost identical to another favorite comic of mine that Bill Watterson drew except the dialog referred to “Ignorance is Bliss”. I believe the last frame Calvin states “Careful, we don’t want to learn anything from this”.

Apparently, you just deserve it that you had something to do stupid stunts till you get older and you pay the huge price! Tch! :-/ :-)

Love Hobbes’ expressions looking over the edge of the wagon. Good thing he is made of soft stuffins………Ha-ha!

its like being a look out for danger ahead, and testing the danger out for yourself to see if you survive the fall after the slight period of rapture in the air. Seized up in the moment so to speak, then back to reality. “LOOK OUT!’

I have to disagree with most of you, sorry. The simple truth is that most of us, as we acquire “wisdom” stop taking these wagon rides… we choose safety and security over living. Sure, there is always the chance of breaking your neck on the way down, but taking those wagon rides of death are what life’s all about. I’ll take 20 years of having fun over 80 years of being safe and boring any day of the week, and twice on friday!
I’m 35, I have arthritis in both knees, I’m starting to gain weight because I never watch my diet, walking up a flight of stairs is a painful thing to do, and living every day to the fullest is catching up to me. I’m paying the price for all the wagon rides I take, but I’m still gonna go down that hill every chance I get.
grazer said, 5 months ago
Life’s journey is not about arriving at the final place safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out and shouting…..
“Holy crap…whatta ride!”

i agree with aelwero, i am a little older with something different sore every week, but i jump on that wagon every day. i also have taught 1 daughter the same, life is short, give it all you got every day, leave it all in the ring.

aelwero, you could be describing me (though i’m past 50 and have gained the weight). i’ve done many things over the years and, although i’ve slowed down some, i refuse to come to a complete stop. i’ll take experiences where i can find them, and continue to surprise people who don’t think someone my age and size “could do something like that!” living well is the best revenge!

Calvin just keeps hitting the nail on the head of life, but he just doesn’t get it that he’s a living example of what he is talking about. Perfect! lol

Tell me Wildmustang1262 haven’t you done stupid stunts or things as a kid. Don’t rag on wolfbyte36 cause he’s my dad. And pain doesn’t bother him. If you haven’t done anything wild crazy or stupid then you don’t know what it is to truly feel alive.

I always wondered … just how does Calvin live through all these calamities … to continue repeating them with a different oratory later. I have never seen any sign of injury in this kid … and I’ve been following Calving and Hobbes since Bill started this comic ages ago.

jeez, everyone’s so deep….repeat after me: it’s just a comic, i’m just a comic junkie. the whole reason i read comics is to not learn anything whatsoever.

I don’t know if anyone will read this at this late date, but what lesson one would naturally learn from this situation largely depends on one’s temperament. And usually, a person of a particular temperament would assume that his lesson was the only lesson worth learning. The answers above illustrate this point in spades.
Few Sunday strips by Bill Watterson show his brillance better than this one, leaving it open-ended as he did.
The lesson I got? Being an ENFP like Calvin, I tend to come up with the same uncomfortable ambiguity he does. :)
