Hobbes is very adverse to being scared.
wolfbyte36 said, 6 months ago
Good one Calvin. Just goes to show , that you should never try to scare a tiger.

Bonus points though for actually sneaking up on Hobbes. But take away points for not predicting the outcome.

Don’t you know, Calvin ? You have to stalk your prey and then pounce on it, not announce your arrival. What happened to that training you received, to become a tiger ?
pouncingtiger said, 6 months ago
That’s what he gets for scaring one of nine lives out of Hobbes.

Love that image of Hobbes in panel 9! But we all know cats are the soul of suave and collected calmness.

bmonk: Try this on a cat and you will get very similar results.

I used to have a cat that I would hide from, then jump out at to startle him. One day the little beggar comes in and starts molesting my (sole) plant and won’t stop. Finally I get up and chase him out to the other room. As I enter, he jumps out at me, and I’m thinking this cat has gone crazy. Then I realized, PAYBACK!
ROFL!

I like Hobbes sitting under the chair cushion in the third panel, how he looks with his eyes! I wonder, he fits under the cushion!

Hobbes a sucker ? It’s merely Calvin: he never learns it the correct way….. Splendid last panel !!

hobbs in the 1st panel is what our cat was like, when ever we couldn’t find him we looked on my sons bed just below the pillow and there would be a rather large lump

Kinda makes one wish that Watterson would make a new series, I have several of his books, they are wonderful and dogeared.

Yep, Hobbes always wins in the end. Even when it doesn’t appear that way early on.

It would appear that Hobbes can dish it out, but…

There’s a steep price to pay for out-foxing a tiger.

Wicky says: “Kinda makes one wish that Watterson would make a new series ……”.
How about starting a petition ??

My wife is the same way. I gotta walk around the house talking to myself saying “stomp, stomp, shuffle, shuffle, stomp, stomp, shuffle, shuffle”.

You scare a tiger, you better have protective gear on from head to toe.

LOL It is’nt often Calvin gets the best of Hobbes. I love the shock/surprise in the next-to-last panel
wolfbyte36 said, 6 months ago
My cats are as lazy as Garfield if not lazier. You could sneak up on them but they would give you a quick look then go back to sleep.

Calvin, my boy, only the small cats run away when scared. The big cats…… Well you know now.
right?

Calvin needs the Doctor now!

I just love the second last panel. A well coiled spring sprung unexpectedly. Don’t care if it’s a rerun - still hilarious.

He lies in wait like a lion in cover; he lies in wait to catch the helpless; he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net.
His victims are crushed, they collapse; they fall under his strength.
He says to himself, “God has forgotten; he covers his face and never sees.”
Arise, LORD! Lift up your hand, O God. Do not forget the helpless.
Why does the wicked man revile God? Why does he say to himself, “He won’t call me to account”?
But you, O God, do see trouble and grief; you consider it to take it in hand. The victim commits himself to you; you are the helper of the fatherless.

Anyone remember the SF zoo Christmas incident with the white Bengal tiger? 3 guys were taunting it (him?) for at least 20 minutes (reconstructed from witnesses), with the tiger lashing its tail and pacing. Suddenly, it paces to the back of the pen, accelerates, and leaps over the containing wall, fence, and moat. The 3 guys and everyone else take off running and screaming, but the tiger pursues only those 3 guys, catches them quickly, and gives each a good rake with its claws - but not killing them. Then it just walks quietly away.
One of the guys dies from his wounds, and the police were out of tranquillizer darts and shot the tiger through the head. (It was a rare and endangered variety too.)

I had a cat once who liked to walk with me in the dark – only he would stalk and attack the sounds my shoes made as I walked. Couldn’t break him of the habit, until I just started lifting my shoe a bit and let him run into the sole.
He did it twice more, getting a bit dazed and shaking his head, and after that he kept walking along prim and proper, “Who me? Somebody attacked your foot? Really now!”
Never did it again though. :-)

Oh my goodness! Calvin looks so abusely bruised after he gives Hobbes a terrifyingly scare. Oh well, maybe Calvin just learns another tuff lesson again. LOLs!
RinaFarina said, 6 months ago
